Failure rate of 54.2 percent, WOW....

The 360 has a failure right this high. This is pretty high IMO. For the future I hope they really get this ironed out.

The media could've put alot of pressure on M$ about this but dropped the ball.

As it stands people continued to buy the console in spite of this news

As long as they're still fixing them for free, it's their problem IMO. Yeah it sucks to have to send one in for repairs, but it's their man hours and their materials going to fix the systems... if they can keep their collective head above water while having to fix over half of their consoles, that's quite remarkable. I'm sure they probably want to fix the issues, but when you're already made millions of unreliable consoles that are still on shelves and when it would cost X amount of R&D money and probably additional for materials that aren't prone to failure, I can't say I blame them for just giving a nice warranty and taking it as it goes. They already tried the Jasper units and those apparently are still having problems (though less than the original systems), so why would they spend more time/money trying to fix it when the system is almost 4 years old?

Saw this and was going to post it, but I figured why bother.

It's a poll of 5,000 people. I'm sure it's not that far off the mark, but still, 5,000 people? That's not even 1% of their userbase.

True, but on the other hand how many people have never had this happen and have never had a friend whom suffered through it?

I've had it happen to me once, so I consider myself lucky. I've only got 1 friend who hasn't had any issues with his Xbox but he barely touches it. All of my other friends who have Xboxes have gone through the process 2+ times.

I would say 50% is about dead on. Whether it's a poll of 100 or 100,000, I think you're still going to end up with near 50%.

I'm surprised it's this low. I don't have a single local friend who has not had to replace at least one. Many made the move to PS3 after a second one broke down. That isn't to say the PS3 hasn't had issues because some of my friends have had issues on those as well. I look at some people's set up and see their game units crammed into some entertainment center with no room to breathe and just cringe.
