    PlayStation 4 Discussion

With all the rumors of a PAX East 2013 announcement, I thought I'd get this topic started. I'm ready for a new system and so is Ubisoft apparently.

    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Any idea how much the PS4 will be on launch? Can't imagine it would be $600 like the PS3 was... However I could be wrong.

Not sure if I'm gonna dish out the money for a new system especially since I picked up the Super Slim a couple weeks ago.

I would imagine in the 400-500$ range.

          Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I would probably wait until there are good amount of games out for console and there arent any problems.
I would be willing to pay $400-500. But, I might wait until it goes on sale

Definitely gonna get the PS4 especially for the Show. Also, skipped out on the Wii U to save my pennies for the PS4 when it comes out

              Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

I can't imagine I'll be getting a PS4 for the first couple of years after launch. My PS3 is capable of handling the standard media format's maximum output resolution of 1080p (for Blu-rays). If 4K TV's are the new thing, and they come down in price to the <$5000 range, maybe I'll package everything together. Until then, I'm fairly content with my PS3.

Of course, I only say that now...

I wont be getting it at the release. Determined to wait at least 6-8 months after release. And even then anything over 400.00 is not getting bought. So by the time theres a price drop the kinks will be out and more games out to see how they play.
Money is not really an issue but Why spend it right away if theres no decent games out.

With the right launch game(s), I'll get it day one. At the right price point, I'll get it day one.

I will say though, I wouldn't expect the same quick price changes this next generation.

I know I won't get it when it's released. I might also just wait until the slimmer version comes out, when it's cheaper and all the bugs are fixed too. That is, of course, assuming the PS4 will be fat like it's predecessors.

                      Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Price will dictate when I buy the console, but features are more important, as they'll determine if it's worth getting at all. Half expect Move to not make the jump to the next generation since they'll just outclass the Wii U rather than try and mimic it, and the waggle gimmick appears to have died years ago. They'll need to get better with being more agile when it comes to the introduction of additions to the OS/Apps, they shipped a BD player and yet the 360 is the one getting many of these entertainment apps first/exclusively with few exceptions.

Backward compatibility certainly in doubt as they move back to a more traditional architecture but that should pay dividends in the long run. Not as important to me but more games is always a huge plus.

Cloud gaming is probably where they can differentiate themselves. People like being able to play the Wii U on the tablet controller... allowing us to play our console on any piece of hardware that can accept a PS4 controller input (Bluetooth still presumably, or wired) would be big step a major selling point. Instant game rentals/demos leveraging the technology gained from their Galkai acquisition could be a game changer too. Some kind of cloud solution could potentially solve the backward compatibility issue and could lead to keeping the Move also.

There's also the integration aspect, we already have 2 PCs and a tablet running Windows 8 at home - and including them probably 4-5 other devices capable of running Smart Glass. Competing with a console that is going to fit in pretty nicely with a connected household that will probably have a hundred million other people using it is important. Hundreds of millions if you include Smart Glass. Interested to see their strategy there.

So yeah, debut the thing at $700 for all I care, the price will come down in time, but it has to do much better in some areas than the PS3 has so the price v features lines will intersect sooner rather than later.

One thing is certain, as I've gotten older and the control scheme of the Wii has successfully weaned me off of the franchises I grew up with, I've found that games and franchises come and go, but how valuable these devices are in our lives are determined by more than just how well they play games. One franchise doesn't dictate whether I buy a console anymore (though a genre might... football specifically). I know some of you are completely the opposite (want a pure gaming machine), but in order to compete all of the players have to do it all now.

Depending on the controller design or 1st party controller alternative if sony continues with a similiar controller design will play a big part if the ps4 has the possibility of being a main console for me. I know i would eventually get one for the mlb the show series but i would just stick it out with the ps3 with not much emphasis to upgrade as quickly.

If you think Sony's DualShock and Move controllers are two halves of a well-rounded gaming experience, you might be pleased to know that the firm has dreamt up a hybrid. A patent application filed last year by Kaz and Co. for a "Hybrid Separable Motion Controller" has just surfaced, and it describes a controller that can function as two independent parts or locked together as one. The application also suggests that the location of the controller's halves could be independently tracked when separated and that video games played with the Franken-hardware could switch to configuration-appropriate control schemes. A similar concept has popped up before, but that's no guarantee the contraption will ever see the light of day. In any case, you can hit the bordering source link to dig into the filing and fantasize what such a piece of kit could mean for gaming.
