Will there be any other opportunities for us working people to preorder a PS5?

So apparently they have had 2 waves of PS5 preorders, the first of which I had no knowledge of until after the fact, and then Thursday, Gamestop called me and told me they were doing one more PS5 preorder yesterday on Friday, preorders would start at 12:00 noon. Unfortunately for me, 11:00 AM was the earliest I'm allowed to go to lunch, so by the time I drove out to Gamestop on my break, it was 11:15 and the line was literally wrapped around the building, and not knowing how many preorders were available, I assume chances were slim to none that I would have been able to secure a preorder as there were likely well over 100 people in line.

I attempted all day at work to preorder online, constantly refreshing their webpage and nothing ever popped up about being able to preorder a PS5, the box always said 'unavailable' so if they were in fact doing preorders online, I must have missed that 2 minute window. My question is, am I screwed now, or is there an outside chance that they will do a 3rd wave of preorders? I just remember when I preordered my PS4 I walked into Gamestop the day they started taking preorders, and it was after my work shift so it was like 6 PM, and they acted like they had tons of available preorders, I mean it was easy, no issues at all and now its next to impossible to preorder unless you have all day to stand in line or sit on your phone and hir refresh every 5 seconds.

Luckily I have a very understanding employer who allowed me to get on my phone yesterday at work whenever there was a break in the action and try to preorder, usually we have a pretty strict no smart device policy at work but they did look the other way for me yesterday as they know I'm trying to surprise my kids with a PS5 for Christmas. Not too worried about it, I'll pick one up one way or another, just trying to avoid paying the flipper price hike and definitely not going to miss work over it.

More than likely there will be more pre orders available. The reason they are so limited this time is due to the pandemic. Demand is much higher this time compared to PS4 launch. Couple that with manufacturing plants being shutdown at one point and Sony just isn’t capable of producing enough consoles to meet demand right now.

Won't be any inventory on hand until after release is my expectation. Until the speculation market can move from hoarding to selling and the demand can be accurately measured most inventory will be bought up unless it's made unappealing via large bundles, which I expect we'll see ($1k+) from Gamestop if/when they get another round.

You dont think that there will be some consoles available on release day?? I know like with the Xbox 360 many years ago, preorders sold out quick but you could stand in line the night before and wait til midnight and hope for the best. I think Walmart had 35 Xbox 360s in stock, of course they didnt tell us an exact amount, and I was like number 32 in line wo i did get one but just barely lol

I'd be surprised if any stores do anything to encourage people to line up and wait outside for extended periods at a time right now. I've got a unit preordered so haven't exactly been following all of the news, but haven't heard or read anything to think anyone will have stock that isn't spoken for.

Don't know about launch day but Best Buy will have PS5 available online only on Black Friday. Limited quantities. It's listed in their Black Friday AD.

I'd be surprised if any stores do anything to encourage people to line up and wait outside for extended periods at a time right now. I've got a unit preordered so haven't exactly been following all of the news, but haven't heard or read anything to think anyone will have stock that isn't spoken for.

I know when we were waiting for the 360 to release we stood in line in the lawn and garden section which was adjacent to the video game aisle in Walmart, many choosing to sit in lawn chairs while we waited. Granted it was 15 years ago but had no idea things would be completely different. I mean does Walmart even do preorders?? I guess this is just the perfect storm of a pandemic leaving a ton of people unemployed or working from home, limited consoles produced due to sick Sony employees and people still sitting on their stimulus check and collecting unemployment as well, allowing them the funds to purchase a PS5. Sorry if it sounds like I'm whining lol, and in all honestly I guess I am in a sense.....as much as I'd like a PS5, if it were just for me it wouldnt bother me waiting 4 or 5 months for the next wave of consoles to become available as there are really no must have games available at launch(IMHO). I really just wanted to do something special for my kids at Christmas time but I guess I'll just tell them Santa is running behind due to elves being sick from Covid and maybe he will come thru in May ��

I was at Best Buy a week ago and a sales rep told me, no consoles on release date in store. I had to scheduled a pick up time on release date just to get my preorder. I also stood in line a walmart for hours for the 360. I thought that was crazy.

I don't know if things will ever be normal again when it comes to pre ordering things. I'm still looking to pre ordering a Series X, but will just wait until stock is in.

Well damn, so far not very reassuring lol. Guess I'm gonna go up to Walmart and talk to them and see what their situation is for PS5. Maybe they recently started preorders cuz I was completely unaware they did them. I may just do what I've been trying to avoid, just overpay from someone trying to flip them. Its either that or wait til at least April to buy one and even then itll probably be a crapshoot. I dont have enough free time, nor do I have freedom from my job to take days off standing in line for one, plus I would probably spend less money than missing work just paying double for a PS5. Sad I know but it is what it is

That's a tough spot to be in. I wouldn't over pay too much for one unless you just had to have it. I don't know what's worse, going through launch not having one, or seeing them in stock one day knowing you paid $1,000 for one.

I heard that none of the big stores(Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc) will be allowing purchases of consoles in store on release day, but would be selling some online, of course in limited quantities, so who knows, maybe a few of us can luck out and buy one online if you happen to catch that small window of opportunity. Unfortunately I'm stuck at home for 9 more days from COVID-19 so maybe it's a blessing in disguise and I might luck out and be able to buy one online since I'll just be sitting at home and I can keep refreshing the screen every few seconds. Sounds pretty sad and desperate, but then again so am I right now lol. Cant go to work, cant go anywhere, so what else is there to do right now anyways ??

I was able to squeeze out some information from my local Target employee and they have consoles in stock. He told me they roughly 12 digital and disk. Good luck

Buy it online and pick up in store when they open. Must have ID for pickup.
