I can say that this year the game seems to allow A LOT more diamonds in packs. I got the digital deluxe edition ($100.00 version). I got Roy Oswalt as my diamond pick. Then in the packs I received I wound up getting a Machado and a Rendon in those. I've only purchased one diamond card as of now, and that was Tori Hunter. My team as presently constituted is as follows (all diamond cards were gotten in packs, aside from my Frank Thomas, which was a reward for hitting the lvl 50 bronze benchmark...

LF Torii Hunter (also use Marcel Ozuna)
CF Lorenzo Cain (he's a phenomenal guy to use, and cheap)
RF Christian Yelich
3B Anthony Rendon
SS Manny Machado
(I move them around, sometimes Rendon to 2nd, and plug in Corria, Seagar, or Gregorius)
2nd D.J. Lemahieu (or Anthony Rendon, 2007 breakout Brandon Phillips)
1B Frank Thomas (Anthony Rizzo, Clay Bellinger, or Josh Donaldson)
C Joe Torre

Hunter is an 87, Yelich an 88, Rendon 86, Machado 87, Thomas 87, Torre 93. Brandon Phillips is an 86

Bench changes from game to game, but mostly it is
Tommy Pham (very underrated card imo), Marcell Ozuna (I've had him on my DD team for the last 3 years. Love playing with him), Cody Bellinger/Anthony Rizzo, Corey Seager/Carlos Corria/Gregorious/Lemahieu
I'll also put Nelson Cruz and Gary Sanchez in there as well. Depending on if I want to play with speed I'll add/subtract. It all depends on what the modifier for the given day is. Love Charlie Blackmon as well.

As for my rotation and relievers...
Roy Oswalt 89
Steven Strausburg 85
Those 2 diamonds I keep in my rotation at all times.

I also keep Patrick Corbin in there, even at an 82 he's very effective.
I swap Walker Buehler (surprisingly solid), Carlos Carrasco, Luis Severino, James Paxton, Bert Blyleven, and the 2004 breakout Oliver Perez. Mostly depends on the modifier on the player.

My Pen doesn't really change...
Filipe Vazquez, Jose Leclerc/Kirby Yates, Roberto Ozuna, Sean Doolittle, Chad Green, Dellin Betances, and I close with Blake Treinen.

With the pen, there are a few other players I swap in and out, but Vazquez and Doolittle are my mainstay lefties...
I like Adam Ottavino, Jose Alvarado, Nate Jones Brandon Morrow and Brad Hand.

There's plenty of other guys I'll plug into my lineup depending on what trying to do. But that's my main lineup and pitching squad. I have found that Corbin can be tough using him against humanity opponents, depends on how I pitch with him though (as does every pitcher)

This is the first time I've ever had more than 2 diamond players on my team at once. I really want that 94 rated Mattingly, but going through the market it's like a 50 dollar card. That's insane. Even when I bought the Hunter card, it was me spending stubs that I earned from selling off doubles and cards I have no use for (like diamond Bryce Harper maple bat, for 16k, which is just nuts.). And I paid a little more than 12k for Hunter

I have spent about 50 or 60 actual dollars for stubs to purchase packs... And was rewarded with getting a bunch of high end players.

I've only added a few diamond cards into the "collection" as they couldn't be sold if I had. Prior to getting them o had a good team (83 overall) as opposed to it being an 85 overall now.

Frank Thomas was my level 50 reward. Was going to take a pitcher, but decided I had more than enough pitching (I have plenty of offense too... But who wouldn't want "The Big Hurt"?

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

Here's an update to my squad

C - Buster Posey (Hardware edition 87) - Really solid card, I knew after I took Ripken with my pre-order I was going to take Posey when I hit level 50. There are just so few elite SS and C's to me it didn't make sense to take any other position. He's average defensively, but has really solid hitting stats. His speed is 40, which is enough that he doesn't clog up the bases. And he's got ALOT of pop against lefties.

1B - Anthony Rizzo/Daniel Murphy - I usually play whichever of these guys is higher on the inside edge. My lineup is predominately right handed, so adding a left handed bat helps me out. I hit really well with Rizzo, less so with Murphy. Murphy is also a defensive liability, while Rizzo is solid. My preference is to start Rizzo and use Murphy in pinch hit situations.

2B - Trevor Story/Robinson Cano - I move these two around as well. Though lately it's been almost exclusively Story. Story is a really solid card in this game, he has good speed, good power, good contact and decent enough fielding. Cano is a solid contact hitter but has very little speed.

3B - Josh Donaldson - This card is silly. Like it might be a glitch. I basically hit a homerun with Donaldson every game and more times than not, they come as clutch shots. He plays fine defense at third, but it's his bat that really plays.

SS - Cal Ripken Jr (Breakout 87 Overall) - This is another great card, premium defense at a premium defensive position. He has great contact as well, decent speed, decent power. I really believe this is one of the few '5 tool' cards that is readily available. He's been in my lineup and hit third since Day 1.

RF - Charlie Blackmon - His defense is atrocious. But you can't deny his bat.

CF - Lorenzo Cain - I believe Cain is going to go Diamond in the near future, with a slight pump to his offensive stats. He plays solid defense and hits for contact, not alot of power however.

LF - Andre Dawson (92 Overall) - This card looks to be ridiculous, but I haven't had much luck with him at the plate yet. He does play stellar defense and has a cannon arm.

Bench
Matt Carpenter - Great pinch hitter vs lefties
Daniel Murphy - See above
Marcel Ozuna - He sometimes draws in to the starting lineup, but he's a great option as a pinch hitter against either hand.
Ken Griffey Sr - Great contact hitter, good base stealing threat.
Mitch Haniger - He's my last option off the bench, but he is solid and he has good enough defensive stats that he can play any outfield position in a pinch without hurting you.

Pitchers

1. Cy Young - Ridiculous. He is one of the better pitchers in the game, if you're facing someone who swings at borderline pitches, they're going to struggle to get hits. If you're facing someone who can layoff, he can get into a bit of trouble as I believe 4 out of 5 pitches are offspeed, making it easy for your opponent to sit offspeed.
2. Gerit Cole - Solid Card. He's not lights out for me, but he's good enough that should be able to keep me in the game.
3. Robbie Ray (84 Overall All Star) - This card is hit and miss. He has swing and miss stuff, but he lacks control. If you've got a patient opponent, Ray can get you in trouble.
4. Carlos Carrasco - I actually pitch pretty well with Carrasco, he has a deadly slider and a decent fastball. He's another guy who should go diamond.
5. Luis Castillo/Bumgarner/Darvish/etc. I've got about 6 guys that I cycle through the final spot, just based on who has the best inside edge. By default I usually go with Castillo, for whatever reason people just seem to struggle squaring him up.

Bullpen
Closer - Delin Bettances
Setup - Felipe Vasquez
Setup - Chad Green
Middle - Brad Hand
Middle - Kirby Yates
Other - Johnny Venters
I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting two guys....

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

So a question for you guys..

I pulled Josh Hader from one of my headliner packs yesterday, problem is I already have Kenley Jansen (diamond), Axford, Betances and several other comparable high end golds so my bullpen is pretty good right now. I like pitching with both, would probably lean towards keeping Hader, but between him and Jansen Im wondering if I should sell one to upgrade elsewhere. I know it's all personal preference but I'm just looking for opinions on what position to upgrade and who to get.

Here's my lineup so far...

Cain- CF

Seager- SS

A.S. Diamond Chipper- 3B

Acuna- LF

Story- 2B

D. Murphy- 1B

A.S. Gold Babe- RF

A.S. Gold Posey- C

Bench- Cano, Cespedes, Puig, Sal Perez, and rotate in several other comparable players.

SP-

Trevor Bauer is my ace

Then I rotate several other 80-85 rated mediocre guys depending on inside edge matchups.

Just curious what everyone else would do, last time I checked Hader was bringing about 25k and Jansen 18k.

I'd like to get rid of Ruth because I just can not hit with him. I've had him since basically release date and am barely hitting over .100. Also would like some more pop at 1B, but I know my starting pitching really could use an upgrade. Only issue with going after a starter is not being able to pick my starter each game I'd kinda like to wait until I make 1-2 more position player upgrades before I start looking for SP. All that said I'm asking if this was your squad, what would you do?

Re: What Does Your DD Squad Look Like?

If you are not going to complete collections, I would sell Hader. Without an offspeed pitch, he can be tough to pitch with. I have him, Miller, and the flashback Venters as my lefties. I only use Hader if I’ve already used the other 2 or am facing just one or 2 left-handed batters.

Thanks for the reply man! Any suggestions on a replacement RF, 1B, or a good SP in the 25-30k range?

I've been using Yelich in RF, but he's out of your 25-30k range. Before I got him, I was using Musial, he didn't get many homers, but he racks up singles and doubles. If you wanted to go even cheaper and can stomach his defense, Nelson Cruz crushes the ball.

For 1B and starter, what level are you? You could take Kershaw at bronze 75 to help your rotation and Thomas at silver 1 for 1B. Or get a cheaper 1B and take Gwynn for RF instead of Thomas.
