No, but the only reason is because they are in the MWC. I think it's absurd to say any 6 star school in a major, autobid conference is "clearly more desirable" than another.

Re: Your Experience with Coaching Carousel?

Back to the point of this thread.
I'm guessing that everyone in your OD will be a head coach. I've only done two seasons as HC but won the NC and brought Miami up to 6 stars. It was only a two contract and I got a ton of 2,3 star offers for HC and OC positions. I took the HC job at Tenn, which was a two star. Fine with me though because I have a soft spot for the Vols.
I started out as an OC at Hawaii though and after my initial three yr contract was over with 1 losing season and a bowl win, it seemed I had much better offers, such as multiple 3 and 4 star OC and HC jobs, than when I won the NC as a head coach. After two stops as OC at Cal and UGA I eventually took my first HC job at Miami.

I just dont understand how after your experience with Miami, that your best offer was a 3*. Doesnt seem right

Ya it was weird, but it defiantly changes from year to year. Makes a huge difference when the bigger schools resign and when there is a spot available, I've noticed many times that either the OC or DC takes the HC spot.

Re: Your Experience with Coaching Carousel?

I have played great for a couple of seasons with a terrible team and didnt recieve any great offers.
I recieved some Coordinator opportunities with maybe 3 star team, and some head coach jobs with 1-2 star teams but thats it.
I thought at the very least I would get some coordinator jobs with great schools or head coach jobs at mid level schools

that's when I stopped reading....Stanford has had 7 winning seasons in the last 20 years, only 3 in the last 10. They got lucky, no pun intended, because an elite QB prospect wanted to get a 4 year architecture degree. Other than that, Stanford will be a 4 star program at best for the rest of eternity.

Re: Your Experience with Coaching Carousel?

It definitely seems to favor hiring coordinators over HC's. In my case I started as an OC for Ball State, won 10 games, got hired as OC at Baylor, stayed two years where I won 6 games and then 10 games, then got hired as HC at Ole Miss. I have an A+ rating now so I'm hoping after a couple of years of improving Ole Miss (they were 6-6 before I took them over and the cupboard is pretty bare) I can get a job at Texas, Florida or Miami who appear to be on the verge of firing their respective coaches.

So basically my advice would be to start at someplace lower than a middle of the road power conference team or at least start as a coordinator. There's not much room to move up starting as a HC in a power conference.
