Why can people play like terminators
Something has to be done about the constant phone booth fighting in this game it is a real problem for me. It’s like the only options are to go backwards and get screwed by a cage takedown or fight in elbow range unless you are Stephen Thompson or Jon Jones.Tags: None -
Re: Why can people play like terminators
You could try to either cut them off before they come in with leg kicks or straights (stopping power) or try to get a better grasp on the weave and slip mechanics. A lot of people are spamming knees and elbows which i think could be tuned but it is possible to avoid damage from pressure players. Better still if you can effectively punish with clinches they will back off. -
Re: Why can people play like terminators
the reason everyone plays like this is because there isn’t enough defensive options to deter the from doing so.
almost all my fights is me just making them miss and sapping their stamina for like the first half of the fight and it just gets boring. the game doesn’t give you any real tools to punish, hence the ‘meta’ being sticking to your opponent like glue firing off nonstop combos
if you’re trying to the patient fighter using skill, timing, movement and defense, you’re seriously fighting an uphill battle. you dodge 99 of their uppercut hook combos? well if the 100th lands and you get flash rocked/dropped all your good work goes down the drainComment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Get a character with oblique/side kicks to the knee. Been using these against players Jon Jones style and never realized how good they are for keeping pressure fighters off you. Time a couple well and they'll be alot more cautious getting in to range to strike and will give you space, at least from my experience using and experimenting with them the past week or so.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
If you look at top players, there are in fact many tools to deter agressive fighters (slip straights, lunges, front kicks to the body etc.). The problem is that those tools are much harder to use effectively and require much more patience and time to learn than just barreling forward. This is the reason why fighting aggressively is suicide at high levels because all the top players can use those tools effectively.
In the lower levels, you have to always play the long game for outside fighting to be effective, which means the fight goes on longer, which means there is more risk of getting clipped by a hook-upper and dying.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Agreed, with how dominant the knees and elbows can be it's not too difficult to punish pressure players - ESPECIALLY if they don't change levels. Apart from a few god mode level changers all it takes is a well timed counter to have them on the back-foot. Pair that with a guy like Ortega who can advanced clinch straight to Thai and 2 gate triangle from double under, and you definitely have toolsComment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
Part of me seriously doubts comp players don’t have a problem with it but maybe it’s because marching foward is suicide when you are against an A+ character.
Try and use weaker lower rated character it’s almost impossible to do outside fighting that’s why most of my fights end up phone booth fighting depending on how my opponent wants to fight me, Especially with characters without the side kick. It’s just silly.Comment

Re: Why can people play like terminators
But at the levels most people play at other than the few comp players this game does have there’s a huge problem. Even Martial mind struggles with it and he is a very good player.

I dont have a dog in this fight because I honestly could give a **** about online ranked play (unless it somehow effects offline play). With that said, the devs have added a good amount of buffs to movement and outside fighting since release. I'm not saying that those buffs dont have some downsides (those downsides were added for balance reasons which is another ranked comp player demand) but they were added.
That also goes to another question. Should we expect "weaker lower rated" characters to be viable on online ranked? If I'm using Paul Felder and I'm fighting a Conor McGregor against a player that is equally skilled, he should beat me most of the time, right?Comment
