First and Baldwin: The Boston College Story

    But first..

After a few years with Coach Tom Wetzel and the Hawai'i Warriors, I've decided to jump into another journal for a few reasons. Yes, I was having fun with Hawai'i but it always felt like something I could have done better. By the time I got to the point I was doing better we were a few seasons in. I used my time with both Hawai'i and Kent State to really focus on how I wanted to present my football journals. I believe the presentation of each sport should slightly change in approach, but I never really could nail my format for football as I did with my baseball journal I'm currently doing (Shameless plug).

With this in mind I've decided to start a new journal. I want to use everything I've learned from format, recruiting rules, sliders, etc. to produce the best journal I can. This is sort of half the game for me, and I'd like to really focus on doing it right.

With that said, the following recruiting rules will follow:

1 star school: 1 star players from anywhere. 2 star IN STATE players only.
1.5 star school: 1 star players from anywhere. 2 star IN PIPELINE players only.
2 star school: 2 star players from anywhere. 3 star IN STATE players only.
2.5 star school: 2 star players from anywhere. 3 star IN PIPELINE players only.
3 star school: 3 star players from anywhere. 4 star IN STATE players only.
3.5 star school: 3 star players from anywhere. 4 star IN PIPLINE players only.
4 star school: 4 star players from anywhere. 5 star IN PIPELINE players only.
4.5 and 5 star school: Any players.

*Transfers are available to any team of any caliber.

(Boston College is currently a 3-star as we start this journal)

          Year in Review (simmed)

Brady Colson Becomes the 31st Eagles Head Coach

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College Eagles have hired a new Head Football Coach today. Brady Colson, the Offensive Coordinator at UMass last season has been hired by the Boston College Eagles to lead the program.

Colson signed a 3-year deal with Boston College after 2-years with the Minutemen and producing an offensive line that was ranked 10th last season, leading a rushing game that produced better than any year in recent Boston College memory. Brady Colson is known as an Offensive Line -focused coach which is perfect for the Eagles who are looking to develop a tougher-nosed program under Colson.

“I'm coming in to return Boston College to the roots of what it was successful with once upon a time. Tough-nosed kids who work harder than the other team on the field – period. We're not interested in the NIL kids who want to come in and flash a few moves and ask for money. We want the kids who are tough, who are willing to rub some dirt on it. That's the team we want to build on both sides of the ball” said Colson at his Press Conference.

Colson also had offers to be the Head Coach of Buffalo, Toledo and an Offensive Coordinator position at Penn State before ultimately accepting to become the Head Coach of Boston College.

"I chose BC because I think this program has unbelievable potential. I'm proud of the work we've done at UMass and I'm really looking forward to what we can do here in Boston College. The ACC is a tough conference and we're going to have our work cut out for us, but we're ready for the job - we always will be" said Colson.

The Eagles will look to continue the momentum from a 7-5 record.

BC has some cool history. Back in 2005 they came to Boise ranked #19 with Matt Ryan at QB and beat Boise State on "The Blue" snapping a 31 game home winning streak in the MPC bowl now known as the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Hey Deuce thanks for checking out the new journal! I go back to like 92 or 93 when they beat Notre Dame and upset the then #1 ranked Irish who just came off a win over Florida State the weekend before in what was then called the game of the century or something like that. I remember hoping BC won that game so badly, liked their helmets and presentation for no real reason. It's not that great haha, but I like it. Hoping this one will be much better with more in-depth coverage of the team etc.

Georgia Set to Defend Championship – Alabama May Disagree

With the start of the season upon us, Georgia is more confident than ever that last year's Championship win will be repeated this year. When we start looking at the combination of offensive line and defensive players on the team, it's hard to disagree.

Mykel Williams was an award winner last year on the Defensive Line picking up the best Defensive End of last year. Williams had pro potential written all over him and before he goes the Columbus, Georgia native wants to go back-to-back with the Bulldogs. He will lead a defense that is without question the best unit based on skill alone coming into this season.

The Bulldogs boast three Middle Linebackers who are easily NFL bound. Senior Chandler Martin, and Junior Raylen Wilson and Junior CJ Allen are set to deliver nightmares to opposing Quarterbacks.

One team that doesn't believe any of that hype is the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide come in with National Championship aspirations after a dissapointing first round exit to the hands of Kansas. The loss had set into motion the plan for this year. Every player coming back conditioning himself and vowing to get to the National Championship game this year.

Alabama and Sophomore Ryan Williams are set to make a lot of noise on the offensive side of the ball. With a Senior line who is experienced with one another and are mostly NFL bound, the Tide know that if Williams can get open and Senior HB Jam Miller can run effectively, we're set for a showdown this year between the best offense against the best defense.

But all of that is just thinking out loud. We still have a lot of games to play. This is what makes College Football great!!!

Holy War is On: Eagles and Irish Renew Rivalry

The Boston College Eagles season will kick-off this weekend at 7:30 in Chestnut Hill against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The game is to be scheduled on National Television on NBC and picked up online by ESPN Radio.

Few rivalries in college football carry the weight of tradition, pride, and history quite like Boston College vs. Notre Dame. When these two storied programs meet on the gridiron, it's more than just a game—it’s a battle for bragging rights between two of the nation’s premier Catholic universities.

For the Irish, the fame and notoriety of being the Catholic school everyone knows. Touchdown Jesus is prominently displayed and the football team is always cared for. Football at Notre Dame is always a big deal. The loss last week to #12 Syracuse left coaches explaining and fans sharing horrible insults to one another on Twitter. The Irish season is close to being up in flames already, but they'll look to rebound against a team they've considered better then this year – the Boston College Eagles.

For Boston College and new Head Coach Brady Colson it's all about beginnings. Would Colson wish to have an easier first game – most likely, but he'll never tell you about it.

“Its whoever's next on the schedule. Its all the same really week to week. Take care of ourselves and we'll be fine” said Colson at the pre-game press conference.

The Eagles are looking to make some noise themselves this year. Senior Quarterback Thomas Castellanos is looking to get somewhere this year. His re-commitment to the program after many rumors had him wanting to go to Wake Forest or Duke and head out of town. He looks to continue the relationship with fellow Senior Lewis Bond who he'll be targeting frequently this year we can imagine.

For the Eagles it's about starting the season on a good note and possibly knocking off a team they shouldn't early. For the Irish it's much about saving their season already. A loss to Syracuse is fine, but a loss to Boston College who comes into the game ranked 66, that would be their second loss and likely the nail in the coffin already.

Notre Dame out the gate is rough, but Castellanos is a baller. I can see you guys griding out a win. Following the new journal man!

EAGLES UPSET THE IRISH!! COLSON ERA OFF TO GREAT START

The Boston College Eagles got the Brady Colson era off to a great start, upsetting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 31-28 in Double Overtime in Chestnut Hill.

Its up and it's no-good if you're the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Junior Kicker Zac Yoakam went 0-2 to effectively send the Irish to an 0-2 start on the year. His kicks from 19 and 35 both missed in regulation, one in the last 30 seconds of the game with the score tied.

The game was scoreless until 9:57 when Jeremiyah Love made it 7-0 on a 2-yard run into the endzone. The Eagles offense would then go 3 and out and punt the ball. Five minutes later the Irish struck again, this time QB Steve Angeli connected with Jayden Thomas for a 82-yard reception to make it 14-0.

The game seemed to be getting out of hand, but Senior QB Thomas Castellanos kept the Eagles calm during the tough times. Castellanos drove the length of the field at the end of the half and ended it with a 12-yard scramble into the end-zone to make it 14-7 at the Half.

The Irish opened the second half early with another Jeremiyah Love run, this time from a yard out to make it 21-7. Boston College would respond on the very next drive when Thomas Castellanos found Sophomore Ismael Zamor for a 35-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-14.

The whole third quarter felt like a race that Boston College could keep pace with but not find anyway closer to the Irish. Luckily for the Eagles the rest of the game wasn't the same.

The Eagles constantly ran TE Matt Ragan at Full Back and the position changed really seemed to be working out. The Irish were not ready to defend the full back and as so Ragan ran for 94 yards on 20 attempts and a Touchdown. He also did leave the game early, so we'll have to see if this is a long term solution or if it was an effective strategy to surprise the Irish. Either way it was effective.

The Irish would drive down for what seemed like a perfect way to capture the win. A long drive, followed by an easy kick through the uprights. Unfortunately for Zac Yoakam it wasn't meant to be. The kicker dinged one off the right upright and kept the game tied leaving the Eagles left in the game.

It was Alex Broome that ran the 6-yard touchdown into the endzone with seconds remaining in the game to tie it up and send it into overtime.

In Overtime both teams scored. First Jeremiyah Love scored his third touchdown of the day and gave the Irish the lead. It was then the Eagles turn and they answered using the rushing game to put it in the endzone. The whole drive was rushes which ended with Alex Broome putting another one in the endzone.

The Eagles then got the ball in the second overtime and kicked a Field Goal which looked at the time like the Irish would go down, score a touchdown and escape. Instead, Boston College intercepted the ball in the endzone and secured the upset victory. Boston College 31, the Irish 28.

The win snapped the Irish's 8-game win streak in the rivalry. The Boston College Eagles win the Holy War and secure the Frank Leahy Memorial Trophy. The win makes Boston College's all-time record in the series 18-9, making up for last year's 44-0 blowout loss to the Irish in South Bend.

The Eagles will host UMASS in Chestnut Hill next weekend.

                          Brady Colson Post-Game Press Conference

(ESPN): "Coach, the move to position tight end Matt Ragan as a fullback was unconventional yet effective, resulting in 94 rushing yards and a touchdown. What inspired this strategy, and do you see it as a long-term component of your offense?"

Well Matt's been a great leader for this team for awhile, and we wanted to get him more touches. We're really happy when he gets the ball, and we figured the easiest way to do that was to have him fill a need. Yeah, the move is a little unconventional because nobody uses Fullbacks anymore, but we'll be glad to. I think it gives us a real control over the game. As for fulltime, I don't know. We'll evaluate the plan and move on next week.

(The Boston Herald): "Your defense managed to hold Notre Dame scoreless in the fourth quarter and secured a crucial interception in the second overtime. What adjustments were made defensively to stifle Notre Dame's offense during these critical moments?"

Yeah I wish I told you I went in there and gave them some rah-rah speech but it never happened. These guys are ready to play regardless of what anyone on this coaching staff tells them.

(ACC Network): "The team demonstrated remarkable composure, especially after trailing 14-0 early in the game. What did you communicate to your players to maintain their focus and drive during these challenging periods?"

Yeah we told the guys just control what you can control. Go out there, play the best game you know how to. If everyone does that we're going to upset the country. I told them that, I meant that. Time is really an illusion. It'll make you think you're not as good as you really are, or that its over before it is. Just stick to the script, perform when you're called upon, it'll all take care of itself.

                            Game Notes

The Boston College Eagles will host rivals UMASS on Saturday in the second of a back-to-back rivalry weekend for the Eagles.

The Eagles, coming off of an upset victory over Notre Dame in double-overtime last weekend, enter the gain extremely confident. A win over a top-tier rival will surely do that, but Brady Colson talked about that in the media this week and how the Eagles we're looking to prepare for this game.

“Well I told the guys, this isn't last week. This is this week. We have to keep our heads on and focus on our opponent this week. If we do thsst we'll be really happy with the end result this year, but if we let Notre Dame beat us in Week 2 when we just beat them last week, I don't see the sense in that at all.”

This game is always a good one if you're a New Englander and though the national attention isn't on this, it has the interest of a lot of people in Massachusetts.

This year's contest will feature UMASS QB AJ Hairston and Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos. Castellanos, an assumed NFL Draftee last year, decided to stay in school (and at Boston College) to see how far he can guide the Eagles this year. Last week against Notre Dame he went 17 of 27 for 183 yards and a touchdown. Something UMASS should be on the watch for.

Should be a good game if both QB's can show up. The Eagles will surely be bringing the pressure on AJ Hairston.

Anyway, Boston College wins 33-0 and moves into the BYE week of their schedule. Following this BYE week we will directly move into the Michigan State game.
