There may have been an update that partially fixes this issue. Of the players that I edited names in my franchise, it now seems that commentary uses the new correct names when they are batting, but not when they are fielding. I have a pitcher who also plays DH, and when he pitches they use the old incorrect name but when he bats they use the changed correct name. I'm not sure if it was always like this, but I'm pretty sure I heard wrong names when they were batting before as well, so hopefully that shows progress. I submitted a bug report directly to them though with a description of how it is now, so I'm hoping it gets fixed eventually.

Update on player name commentary bug with edited players
I had a thread on this but it might not be restored yet, and in any event I can't find it because there is no search feature, so I made a new one for a small update.

Both the pa and booth say the names ( if available of course ) properly.

Hmm, wonder why my fielders still get the wrong names then. Would pre-existing franchises be updated to this? I might try changing a name and changing it back in my franchise.Comment

EDIT: I changed his 2 way status to No and took him out of my lineups, and the commentators used the correct name. When I exited the game I checked his 2 way status and it was changed back to yes. I'm going to try to put him back in my lineup and see what happens.
Not sure when I'll get to my next game with him as starter, might be tomorrow might be Wednesday or so, but I'm playing at least part of every game right now as I'm in a playoff race, and I just played his start so I have 4 games to get through before the next one.
I'll report back with results, but it appears the issue is just with 2 way pitchers now. If this workaround works, I'll be thrilled. If not I'll just deal with it as I'm too deep into my franchise at this point to start over, and hopefully they will fix it for this as well.Last edited by noarmsduck; 05-18-2025, 11:39 PM.Comment

Ok, they just called my 2B the wrong name in the field. So no idea what the logic is with this bug. Anyways with my pitcher back as DH in the lineup commentary returned to using the wrong name.
So in summary the bug is always there for 2 way pitchers, and sometimes for fielders. Correct names are used all the time for batters in my time testing.Comment

1st game played after the update this week. They used the correct name for my 2 way pitcher in pre game introduction, and referred to him properly in game as well. 2nd basemen gave the wrong name again while fielding a ball, but his is close enough that it's not that noticeable lol. I'm just in the 2nd inning now.Comment
