    Generated Players Heights

I don't know if they're just randomly assigning heights or if there's someone at SDS is insecure about their stature and passing it on to us, but SDS's heights for generated players is still not good.

I was starting a new season and looking at some of the incoming draftees, and decided to compare to the first 6 rounds of last year's MLB Draft.

In 2024, the average draftee (rounded to the nearest half inch) was 6'2". In The Show, it was 6'0½". So about an inch and a half difference. But it's the how we got there. There were 7 players drafted in the first 6 rounds who were under 5'10" (with the shortest player being a 5'8" catcher). In The Show, there were 32 players under 5'10", including 11 players at 5'7")

Catchers drafted last year averaged 6'0", The Show gave me an average of 6'1½". So, actually quite a bit taller than irl.

At 1B, the average 2024 draftee was 6'4" (those are some big dudes). If the 14 1B drafted in my Franchise, only 4 individuals were 6'4" or higher, and the average was just 6'0½", 3½ inches shorter.

At 2B, real players averaged 5'11½" compared to 6'0½" in The Show. Again, a little taller in the Show (but at least in the ballpark).

3B is the weirdest one (and the one that made me look into this). Irl, 3B is the second tallest of the position players, shorter on average than just 1B and Pitcher at 6'2". In The Show, they average 5'9". In my franchise, only 2 of the 6 3B drafted in the first 6 rounds was over 5'10".

SS was 6'0½" irl and 5'10½" in the game.

OF was 6'1" irl and 5'11" in the game.

And the average drafted pitcher was 6'3" irl and 6'1½" in the game.

There's also just a weird lack of players between 6'1" and 6'3 in The Show. Irl, 6'2" and 6'3" were the two most common heights, but in The Show it's 6'0" and 6'4" (The Show is Blue in the Chart, the 2024 Draft is in Red).

In my franchise I'm giving all drafted pitchers an extra inch, 3 for 1B, 4 for 3B, 2 for SS and OF, and docking 2 inches from Catchers and an Inch from 2B.

This is the first year I bought The Show since 2020ish, and there were similar issues then. In general it feels like this aspect of franchise mode (among others) hasn’t been touched in years.

I guess at least we have the ability to edit almost everything on the players we draft, so we can fix it if we want. I haven’t done much of that in my franchise, but I’ve been tempted to start. Probably less extreme than your approach, but I’ll at least make sure prospects with MLB potential look more realistic on paper. (I wish we could edit hot/cold zones and quirks, the only two things that seem uneditable unless I’m just missing them.)

I've gone through and edited equipment for a couple years now, as it's generally really bad too. So this is just another thing on top of that.

The Third Baseman I drafted #3 overall was 5'7", 167 lbs with the "fat" body type. Looked absolutely ridiculous.

I already have to edit facial hair on draftees so I go ahead and edit anything else (like height and weight) while I'm at it.

There might be an issue with player models, period.

I've been using 1991 Randy Johnson in DD.. handing out high-fives after a W, he's no taller than anyone else in the line.

I think they probably have to smooth out heights for interactive animations like that so the Randy Johnson isn't getting high fives to the elbow. Just playing against the Reds, and Elly De La Cruz caught a ball in shallow left field, and the difference in height between him and Cedric Mullins is very noticeable.

Yes the mo-capped cutscenes are usually guilty of this for that very reason. But in game, the models are accurate and noticbly different when it comes to height.

                Makes sense.

Ironic though; with his M's HOF announcement they did a re-air of his 1990 no-hitter.. at the end, when he was getting mobbed, he just towered over everyone.

I care less about this than the fact that they still have him falling off the mound with his delivery. Which he never did, even in his wild days.

Ironic you say that, because his finish in the Show seems to be based off this clip of the final out of his no-hitter: https://youtu.be/cjPxxOwlVvI?si=MXTlvg_eEESSK_Ab

And he also falls of the mound a bit on the final out of his perfect game: https://youtu.be/7aBRbEKKA5A?si=_P2-dPAcLHnm2U1K

He didn't have a consistent finish. If you watch the perfect game, there are pitches where he finishes in a fielding position, and others where he's finishing pretty close to how he does in The Show. So they had to make a choice.

He also spent his whole career tipping his slider. It’s a hilarious story that Eduardo Perez shared a few years back on ESPN when Randy asked him how he was able to have so much success off of him.

T It seems as if the whole player generation process is randomized everywhere, outside of MAYBE haircuts. Ideally they'd add weights and rules to the process so I'm not see 5'8 catchers who 175 but are "husky". I also wouldn't see Adidas batting gloves with Nike shoes. Still miles head of MVP Baseball (which I still play) where I'm drafting an asian guy named Nomar Bierbrodt. You'd think we'd come a longer way in the past 20 years.
