Nintendo is going to continue to be the albatross that holds graphics back.

Franchise mode depth and customization are at the top of my list. Everything else is off in some galaxy FAR away.

Haven't followed much of the news around either game. Did CFB 26 and Madden 26 really make leaps graphically?

Yes, when compared to Madden 24 the difference is definitely noticeable and after Seeing the CFB 26 trailer it looks like they are back at it. As a die hard MLB fan I couldn't help but think if this was MLB The Shows graphical level. I think things would be a lot different. So only hoping MLB The Show will upgrade that dying game engine.

I'd love to vote but I just dont have a clue what to expect any more from Sony. They used to have a great track record but now its always a mixed bag every year. Some neat new things every year but also for sure some head scratchers too.

Most every game only gets incrementally better graphically from year to year.I think this game has done that the past couple of years.Madden and especially Nba2k have done the same but have been on a higher level graphically for years now.

I'm not trying to dispute that this game should be somewhat better in this regard but at the same time they're not as bad as some make them out to be.

I mentioned it in the new patch thread, but if you look at the new scans they’ve added, they are a lot more detailed than previous years. This years game looks better than last year for sure and I’d expect them to expand on it next year. But I don’t expect a massive jump in graphics just because they seem content to keep the engine and you don’t really see massive jumps in graphics anymore.

Agreed, I think the engine if they are content on keeping is holding them back. I think what got me the most and not saying Madden 25 and MLB are apples to apples. But just the face scans, body types, lighting equipment, Crowd density alone just leaves a lot more to be desired for MLB The Show. And I know it's my personal preference but this is the 1st year I skipped the series after seeing what was really capable on my PS5. I saw a post how they added the "torpedo bats" and thought to myself man they made that update fast and have the same five stale running animations for like the last 10 years. So yeah a lot left to be desired. I know competition creates pressure but Pro spirits is the only contender at the moment and they don't have an MLB License. My goal of this post was to see if the community could put enough pressure out there maybe just maybe we could push for change.

The show has been taking some steps in improving the graphics the last couple of years. Last year the lighting and players faces were improved. This year the grass/dirt and uniforms/player models were improved. While it hasn't been a major improvement I think many expected on the current generation, they have improved.

I'm hopeful that with the Switch 2 coming out, that we'll continue to see more improvements. Will it be a total overhaul? IDK, I do think the current engine is pretty much maxed out, but I've gotta believe SDS wants to keep improving the graphics as much as possible.

I think The Show's main problem is that they do update the player models, uniforms, lighting etc slowly every year but the stadiums still look mostly the same from 5 maybe even 10 years ago so it never looks like a huge improvement. The stadiums are what needs the biggest refresh.

The issue relies partially on the engine. It's a big risk for them to move to another one (even a house one), it might cause issues with the gameplay the first couple of years.
That said, if they release the game on PC we'll be able to see if the current engine has reached its limitations or not...

That's why it will never be on PC. I have a feeling the devs don't want us to know.

It won’t be on PC because they’ve never worked to match drastically differing specs before. Their team is used to set systems that they can build to and can do less testing.

Also they’d have to work on an anti-cheat since cheating is rampant in so many PC games now, especially sports games. It’s just a lot of work to get it onto PC that may not be worth it when they already have a sizable player base on console already. The engine and code they use has nothing to do with it. Most game developers enjoy the mod community because it keeps people playing their games and gets more people to buy them. SDS isn’t skipping out on those sales because their “code will be exposed”.

This year the lighting also definitely improved. Small steps every year, but steps nonetheless. Would I like a big graphical overhaul, sure but first and foremost I want the gameplay to be top notch.

Graphically my biggest gripe has been the grass and dirt in the past years. The dirt has definitely been improved on texture wise and with dirt movements during defense plays and slides but they still use the same tech for grass which I’m not a fan of. All the grasses reflect individual shadows in close ups what makes the grass flicker constantly in close shots and further away the grass still has no depth.

Check this shots from Madden and The Show. The grass just looks more like…well real grass:

The grass in the Show just looks too perfect, no spots or different colour parts whatsoever.
Maybe the grass in MLB stadiums is indeed in way better shape because it doesn’t get trampled on like it does on NFL fields I don’t know but it’s just noticeable to me.
