I have a timing hitting question.

For those of you who use timing/directional hitting is it better to just tap the swing button or give it a good press?

Im a bit of a button masher when it comes to gaming but today I just started lightly tapping and felt my timing really improved.

Is it just placebo or have I actually been playing wrong all these years?

I have no proof, but I do believe the buttons are pressure sensitive for hitting like they are with pitching. The harder you press, the harder the swing.

      That is definitely not true.

It’s placebo but the more you think about a pitch as you see it, it’s more likely your swing will be late. I play on zone button, but it’s the same off timing. High breaking balls that you react to late are usually late swings, low changeups you see usually early on. It all depends on what the CPU throws first. But tapping the button has no impact on the hit outside of having more of a chance of having a check swing. Hit power is all tied to contact and timing.

I'm confused because if you tap the button you are going to check your swing.

I can’t remember the last time I had a check swing.

Like your batter doesn't check his swing or they don't call it a check? Because the check swing logic is and always has been garbage in this game for as long as I can remember.

Off the top of my head I don’t think I’ myself has initiated a check swing. Previous years I’ve had them even accidentally. Im sure it’s just me though. I have seen the CPU check swings as normal.

I generally find that I hit better if I'm tapping (and my thumb is off the button before pressing). Not because it makes a difference in the game, but because I feel like I have better patience and timing if I do that; I'm less likely to come out of my shoes for an off speed pitch.

If you tap pretty late, it’s always a swing. Check swings only happen if you tap early up until slightly late. Also if you use contact swing, it’s easier to check swing than it is on normal swing. I’ve had plenty on close pitches with normal swing though this year.

I like using analog flick for this because you can kind of reposition on the stick to swing earlier/later. but seeing how that works I can't imagine buttons would be pressure sensitive only

I check swing a lot. The problem is the system is a bit broke. It is always a strike on me when I check swing…always. For the cpu it is hardly ever a strike even though some of the animations make it clear they went.

I hope they tweak this in the future.

It’s pretty random. I’ve see 50/50 for both me and the CPU. Was worse in 23 but the last two years it’s been even from what I’ve seen.
