MLB The Show 25 Franchise Mode Still Lacks an Off-Field Identity

MLB The Show’s franchise mode has been in a “rebuilding” phase the last couple years. Not...

Good article. I'm very happy 30 team control is a thing, and that I can keep my franchise world from getting too insane. And for my rebuilds, "house rules" are a must. In your case with getting naylor and schwarber, I can see the buccos signing schwarber possibly, but not both. So I would have just had naylor re-sign with Arizona since that seems to make the most sense. (in my world)

For sure, for sure. I think in my run of articles this week it's just been about trying to get at what's gnawing at me for why I'm enjoying game to game but not season to season as much for The Show. I really do think a lot of these franchise modes just need some sort of "killer app" feature within franchise mode to keep me hooked and some of them just don't have them to me.

30-team control and House Rules is cool (and 30-team control should obviously be standard in all franchise mode as an option), it's just quite a time investment that I don't find as worth it when I'm not getting much out of it beyond keeping the league itself somewhat realistic.

Remember when we could set prices for tickets, food, parking etc.?
Remember when we could buy newer facilites or renew the field?
Remember when we could buy better transportation for our team?
Remember when our fanbase were happy or mad, liking superstars or disliking a bottom team?
Remember when we could sign sponsor deals for our stadium, and sign TV contracts?
Remember when we had newspaper articles everyday, focusing both on our team AND on a game of the day?

Ahh yes, the new powerful consoles certainly couldn't handle this. The Show 12 was the last entry in this series which offered an immersive franchise experience.

Did the Show actually have this back then? It’s been awhile but i thought that was only MVP.

I think most of those things were. I've never really seen the appeal of these sorts of things beyond it being a fun thing to mention but it was never a draw for me for why I was really playing the mode. It was just another lever to more min/max to get a little extra funds -- same deal with like owner mode in Madden.

Ummm, yes? Thats why I made that comment? I've been playing The Show since 2009, which was the best game of the whole series.

Cool, other people cared about these features though. Don't know why you have to come in here to voice your displeasure of missing features that the devs randomly took out. Literally another reason why sports games are in the state they are for so many years.

They were removed because they had very little to no impact at all on a franchise outside of cosmetic appeal.

I would love end-of-season exit interviews with players where they can give you feedback. Like "I wasn't happy with my playing time." or "I don't like how I'm being developed." or "I'd like to explore a position change so I can get on the field." and then in turn you can give them feedback and what you'd like to see them work on during the offseason.

In turn, you 1. have a hand in their development in specific attributes to target ones that the team needs, 2. You can identify players who are buying into your system and ones who are not.

Also, with The Show, I wish there were more screens that allowed us to compare players, both internally and externally. The MLB Rank for each position really doesn't do it for me. That's too macro level. When you're in a rebuild, making steady micro level improvements is more realistic than the wholesale changes. We just don't have the screens to do that right now.

Lastly, I would like more Owner meddling. Sometimes teams are stuck as bottom feeders because their owners are notorious penny pinchers. So they either want you to acquire somebody at all costs, or they have to sign off on all trades or FAs before they are offered or accepted. Some owners don't want to go over the luxury tax threshold while some will allow it if we're close to a championship.

Yeah the earlier games had all of this. Some of it was fun. Like setting food prices I enjoyed. And you could set promotional days throughout the season with different items like bobble heads, caps, jerseys etc. That's the one I really miss. Other things got to just be a chore. Like buying different transportation was just dumb to me. I'm taking over an MLB team, they should already have more transportation than a bus. I'd like the promotional days, food and ticket prices back. The rest can stay in the past.

I’ve played since 2005, it’s been so long though that I forgot they existed and i just remember MVPs franchise mode.

I used to enjoy those owner mode styles, but I have less time and less patience to do those things now. But if they re-implemented like NHLs franchise mode where those owner parts are optional, it would be a cool re-addition.
