The draw in MVP 2005 was that you got a PnL after each game and could use your funds to upgrade your stadium.

Franchise identity in one word is ''Grind''.

Madden franchise or CFB , I can get twenty seasons in, no problem.
2k basketball, I can get twice the amount of seasons in as The Show Franchise.

If get five seasons in with MLBTS Franchise, I've really accomplished something.

      So yeah, its a grind.

Another post where you defend random decisions of stripping features out of the game. In a thread about Off-Field identity, which is literally cosmetic appeal for the most part.

Are you a shill for SDS?

I'm not defending anything. I'm answering your question.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

This game has a number of issues off the field, in my opinion, for what i would want out of a baseball sim. I think 24 is going to be my last purchase. I've played 25 and tried to go through a bunch of options, and other than the free agency changes and the last ten games feature on player cards the game feels really bare.

Im sure there was an interview with Nick Livingston a couple years ago where he said all that stuff didn’t actually impact team budgets and whatnot.

Ahh yes, the new powerful consoles certainly couldn't handle this. The Show 12 was the last entry in this series which offered an immersive franchise experience.
This mentality that something existed 20 years ago so it should still be in the game is really weird, because a lot of this stuff would be dumb today. Choosing transportation? You gonna make your guys walk or something? It's 2025, they have a basic level of travel now. Renew the field? Does aerating the virtual grass have a gameplay effect? Wait, let me buy a bounce house for the fans! Who cares.

New stories and fan feedback on the team could add some personality to franchise. Setting prices I never got into but I could see working well if it was tied into your team budget and not just a menu item that existed for fake immersion.

They also got rid of most of those things because most people just want to pick up and play with their favorite team. So having to keep up with all this non-baseball related stuff was considered nonsense. I say this as someone that enjoyed these things back 10-15 years ago, but I don’t have the time in the day to keep up with any of it. And with how short the attention span is of people today, it’s end up being a waste of resources for the very small population of people that would maximize those features.

I think the problem is that it feels like there is no real history and baseball is all about history. It doesnt matter who your manager is as i dont even think they track their stats (could be wrong). I know they have attributes, but you cant edit them in any way and it just feels irrelevant whichever generic one you hire.
I also really dont like the TOT next to stats when you trade for a player. They dont split the teams. It's weird to me. There's no reference to history at all, no real immersion with basic cut screens that could show the city, show fans getting/ wearing stadium giveaways, just random shots of people kayaking in the bay in SF, diving for a HR if it reaches the bay-- just stuff that adds life. Show the players taking batting practice before games, let the player in franchise mode take batting practice to warm up. just small things that add up. add memories, like so and so player was hit yesterday, be cool see replays of earlier moments in the season. There should be more personality to the players beyond contract demands.

I agree with some of this. For a sport that is so concerned with the preservation of its history and have a segment of fans that call themselves "purists," none of that ATD is baked into this game.

Who are the top 25 to 50 all-time hitters or pitchers in any given category, and why can't I see them? Who are the franchise leaders in any pertinent statical category, and why can't I see them? Why hasn't there been a reset to how the game decides HOF determination? Why have they removed many features from franchise mode (whether you advocate for their inclusion or not) but haven't deemed it necessary to refresh a very old and antiquated rating system with the same old attributes that have been around for over 2 decades. Why are quirks not editable, why are there no tendencies to differentiate players, why are actually K/9 stats so vastly below that of real life and they haven't been scaled to fit the current sim engine. Why does the game still insist on using very old lineup conventions when optimizing your lineup in simmed games when people are taking days off (if I have my best hitter in the leadoff spot, I don't want that changed when the 1 person takes a day off and the game decides to change my entire lineup around). Why does the game still not understand that SU men pitch way more often than the current usage in the game (and this has always been broken).

You also brought up managers, who are glorified attribute boost cards like in RTTS. They do absolutely nothing. They don't have personal strategies for how teams play. They have no personality or MO where gameplay is concerned. You don't have a guy who leaves is starter out there too long. The game almost never uses pinch hitters now that there's universal DH. These are some of the holes I see in the game. There are others, these are just what I came up with because they have been long standing issues.

We're just talking mate, you're being a little belligerent when we're just trying to have a little friendly back and forth. Maybe don't be so accusatory and just talk about why you like the things, it's more effective.

Like the one dude explaining the funds were there to help upgrade your stadium by MVP 05, which is a good point. Arcade-like elements have their place even if there's no real Major League style "flying in crap airplane" concept in real MLB, if you used it as a way to make something more interesting then yeah it's def got more of a place than if you just raise/lower prices for no real tangible reason.

In MVP, it was not cosmetic at all. Fans didn’t show if prices were too high and destroyed your PNL. Too low and you sell out, but still under cutting yourself. Ironically, you actually needed some business sense in 05 to get a good product on the field and maintain profitability (not to mention to project future payrolls to avoid bankruptcy). I still play time to time.
