Experimenting with bunting ability attribute and zero'd out bunting on competitive/GOAT/timing only batting settings. In practice mode, my batter put the ball in play at a very high significant rate. MLB is not about much bunting as we all know, so only certain players should have this skill. You'd expect with the attribute zero'd, he'd foul off or miss most every pitch, but it was quite the opposite.

I feel the opposite is true. They "nerfed" bunting several versions ago because of online competitive play complaints. The MLB not bunting is a conscious choice based on the Sabermetric idea that bunting is bad strategy, not that professional players cannot bunt the ball in play. It should probably be more effective if anything.Texas Rangers/Chicago Cubs

I would be curious to know the results of the same test but using SIMULATION versus COMPETITIVE. Competitive favors stick skills over ratings.I stalk people on OS and make obscene replies👍 1Comment

Re: Bunting ability needs serious patching
I’ve always found that bunting has a lot to do with not just pitch location, but also how you line up the PCI. I know the PCI technically doesn’t impact it (or at least I didn’t think it did), but I’ve had the most realistic bunts when they are middle and I line up the PCI based on if the pitch is inside or outside. Most likely placebo but it works for me.
