At this point he is 36. I must have misread his Overall the first time, because he is a 78 right now, so his drop is ~17 points I think.

However, I still don't have an answer about the consistency of regression. Has someone noticed if it's constant across different franchises? If not, I may run a few franchises with the same player 5-10 times until I get an answer, then report back here.

Looks like his power remained steady but average dropped.

I would be curious to know several things.

What happened to his individual attributes? They don't all increase or decrease at the same rate.

How was he being trained? With manual training if you see some attributes dropping and others remaining steady you can correct that. I suspect if he was on user controlled team his drop in average could have been corrected with proper training. On cpu controlled team everything is auto. For his worst hr season and best ba season to be 2013 it looks like he got a lot more power training than contact and vision.

Did his potential drop? People have been advocating for more random changes in potential for reasons I don't understand.

One other thing - simming produces different results from playing in manage mode. Two different game engines.

I think those sim numbers look great. He is at 36. His numbers started to decline at 34, but were still respectable.

Okay...so would you say the "potential"(and therefore the main contributor to growth/regression...as he did not hit the age peak yet) ....for Tim Lincecum is the same as it would be from 2006(prospect) to 2009....and then '10....and then to 2012/12 and today?

Players in real life do not remain static....neither should they in the game.

A bit of a derivation from the original topic, but as I said, I'm new to this. How often should I switch a player's training if I choose to do it manually? My intuition says every 2-3 weeks, but that's just a guess really.

Again, new to this, when you mean manage mode do you mean at "Today's Games" choosing Manage Game or Broadcast Manager?

Is there perhaps a thread that discusses or breaks down the Managerial game engine as opposed to the Simulation engine?

Training directly impacts regression - it is not deviating from the op.

Select manage game. Essentially cpu vs cpu except you can intervene in the same way a MLB manager can.

Training - train those areas where you want to improve a player. Going from memory I believe it is recommended to change every couple months.

The devs are careful about how much is disclosed but if you search Brian's posts you can get some ideas about the difference. For one thing a pitcher's hr/9 rating has no impact when playing the game but does impact the game when simming.

As one of the every day players, I change the training everyday on nearly every position. Yet to see how that ultimately pays off though..

This is old and the training menu has changed since then but for what it's worth...

Russell_SCEA;2042063732Player progression works two ways during the season based on performance your players will fluctuate attribute wise. Training is what makes them improve after the season is over. You want to train your players in what you think is important for about 3-5 weeks at a time.
