Re: Simulation Sunday baseball now recruiting
Nice cut & paste homie.
General Game Play Rules
-No batter should be thrown at by an outfielder at First Base while running from Home to First Base
-No runners should advance more than one base on a ball hit in the infield
-Runners should not advance on a dropped 3rd strike where there is a play at First Base to get the batter out. If it is a wild pitch and to the backstop, then runners may advance
-Bunting is certainly allowed but should not be abused. Should be used in realistic situations.
-No hitting or pitching substitutions can be made in the middle of a count unless an injury requires this
-Players should only play positions that are listed that a player can play. If a player does not have OF listed, he should not play OF, etc.
-Try to avoid quick pitching to allow opponent to make substitutions
-Pitchers are not expected to throw ball down the middle, however, the object is to throw strikes or be in the vicinity and not throwing high pitches off the screen and dirtballs every other pitch. Also, it is up the hitter to have an eye for whats a ball and a strike and not swing at everything. If a pitcher is throwing balls, batters should draw some walks.
-Runners should not attempt a steal while pitcher is still holding ball on mound. It may happen by mistake but it should not be a normal happening
-In events of a blowout, up 8 or 9 runs after 7 innings, winning team should not be stealing bases and are encouraged to occasionally let the bench players get some AB's.
Time Commitment - We all have real life issues and they come first. Things come up & can't be avoided, which is obviously excusable. That being said this is only a game, but we are using our free time to participate. If you are going to join, be committed to getting games in. If you can't continue, contact us because we can replace you with someone from the waiting list. We don't want to have 1 or 2 teams dragging the league down. We don't expect you to play every night. You can take a few days off, this stuff is no problem. But stay active.
Using rightfielder to throw out runner to first base - DO NOT DO IT. Period. Rarely happens in real life games. When it does its usually due to lack of hustle or some weird circumstance. I don't care how slower the runner is going, if it drops in RF, it's a base hit. It is too easy to use this in the show, especially on a slow runner. If it's a base hit then either throw to the cut off man or to 2nd base, not first.
Quick Pitching - BALKS are on, as usual. The pitcher controls the pace of the game. If there is nobody on base, you can take as little as a few seconds between pitches. Some guys like to take a second or two longer, it depends on the owner. There is no rule for how quick you have to pitch with nobody on base.
With runners on, you MUST come to a complete stop with your pitcher before delivering the pitch. If you don't, this is an obvious balk. A few during the season, it happens. Multiple balks in multiple games and we have a problem.
Taking extra base with RISP using bunts or other situations
Please don't use the bunt or other gameplay flaws to take advantage of the game. I have seen people just hold L1 and send the runner to 3rd knowing that if the throw is to first, they have a good chance of getting the extra base due to laggy controls and fielder response issues. Just like the right fielder throw out, this can happen but rarely. This can be used in other situations. It's okay to be aggressive in baseball, but this is clear indication that someone is taking advantage of the gameplay mechanics and knows exactly what they're doing.
Bluff/feign bunting- There are times where faking the bunt is acceptable. If you are doing it almost every batter or in situations where you have no intention of bunting, it is not acceptable. It's not acceptable to do this with runners on base and a power hitter up. This could also mess up pitching location.
Pitching Rotations - You need to use your entire 5 man rotation. You are free to swap order, pull guys out of the rotation, call a guy up, etc throughout the course of the season.
No conceding games- All games must be played out. If you think that you are going to have a time issue then please do not start a game. The only exception is a real life issue, which of course is a totally different situation. This is really applying to a blowout game.
Early/quick steal- The early steal control is not allowed. Steals can be done with L2 or the L2/analog stick + base runner only. Please do not use the "Left Analog stick + base icon" as listed in the manual.
Practice Swings- Based on the amount of games I've played, there is definitely a slowdown when guys are taking a practice swing after each pitch. Do not do this after each pitch. These games take long enough sometimes and all this does is delay the game. Now it's okay during certain situations (like after you pause the game to signal you're ready again.. Or after a tough pitch was just called a strike and you need a second.. Or you just need a second in general). You get the idea. But there is no reason to do this after each pitch and every at bat.
Dirtballs - Dirtballs happen.. They happen when looking for a strikeout. They happen by mistake. I'm not saying don't throw any dirtballs because that's not realistic but do not throw dirtballs the entire game.. Basically we don't want someone throwing curves in the dirt 75% of the time, like you'd see in a quick match against a random. Don't do it constantly looking for strike 1. It's just not the way we play here. If you abuse this, we're gonna know.
Here is an example of what we deem excessive
- Pitch sequence as follows- Curve in dirt, Low change, Curve in dirt, Fastball, curve in dirt, Fastball-
That's the kind of pitching you'd expect to see in a quick match. I know the common response is the guy shouldn't be swinging at it but it's tiresome to sit there and watch every other pitch drop in the dirt. It is possible to throw a low curve in this game and not have it always wind up in the dirt. We don't ban dirtballs because it's part of the game and there are definitely times where it could be called for. Guy keeps fouling off tough pitches, you throw one in the dirt, sure. But like everything else, it's up to us to look out for the benefit of the league and watch for abuse. If one guy complains, we take note. When it's multiple guys, then we have to step in and say something.
You also don't have to feel bad for throwing one in the dirt. I think some guys are taking it personal when they get a pitch low in the dirt and they never throw one. Once again, dirtballs are not banned. Excessive ones are. If you are still unclear by what we mean by excessive, then PM us..
Respect - If you have an issue with someone, come to us. Do NOT take it to this forum and attack the person you have an issue with. We will not tolerate this type of behavior here and OS as a whole doesn't tolerate it anyway. We've never really had issues with this but anytime we invite several new guys in, I think it should be said. We're all here to have a blast, play some good competition and just enjoy the game online. If you get personal and start throwing around insults, you make yourself and the league look bad.
Cut Scenes- The presentation is currently set to fast play. The only cut scenes really are the batter stats and end of inning. Do not X out of the batter stats. They flash for literally 5 seconds, you can wait until they are gone and then pitch. As far as the end of the inning goes, wait a few seconds and let the announcers finish before hitting X.
