Will Online Lag be an issue?

Hi everyone,

I am new to MLB The Show, and more than excited for the release. I have an X1, and am buying a PS4 just for this game. I am an avid online gamer, and what concerns me most is the online lag I have read about in the PS3 version. I believe it was even an issue on The Show '12.

Now, I understand that the PSN network on PS4 is a whole 'nother animal compared to the PS3 (at least I think it is, someone correct me if it's not), but has anyone heard about an effort from the PS4 crew to alleviate the lag while playing The Show online on PS4?

I read the PS3 review on IGN and one of the cons is "laggy online experience". Please tell me your experience with this game online in terms of latency. Thanks!

Well as of now, no one really knows about lag on the PS4.

being that we now have to pay to play online with PS4, one would hope that a first party developer can deliver. Online has been the weakest mode of the series and so far with MLB14 on PS3 it is by far the worse of the series, so not getting my expectations to high for PS4

I agree, as ironic as it may sound, I was actually happy to hear that PSN on PS4 was pay-to-play. One can only conclude this would lead to a better overall experience.

Your point about the online experience being weak on the PS3 version is disappointing. I guess we will find out on the 6th!

nope he wasnt and as most reviewers they do not take into account online or review the game prior to online being launched

I just read some forum posts from theshownation.com and people are ripping the online play on the PS3 version. One guy even suggested that they are using the PS3 users as beta testers for the PS4 version lmao. I also read that they have "a lot of online upgrades on the way soon". Hope that's true.

Doea anyone know if it's "easier" to push out updates on the PS4 games, similar to how it's "easier" for Microsoft to release updates for X1 games I.E. Titanfall updates are getting released sooner on X1 than on 360.

With the PS4 version being over a month late and the PSN being pay to play, it had better run flawlessly. I'm considering waiting a week or two after release to see just how bad it is. It's a shame online seems to be so hard for this team to tackle. Might be time to expand the roster and hire some guys who know how to get the most out of the PSN.

My thinking exactly! I was also discussing with a friend of mine how overlooked online play is. It rarely gets reviewed and it rarely gets patched, even when the contingent of online players grow and grow every year.

I can only image that the PS4s infrastructure allows them to tweak and enhance the online experience.

I hope more news comes out!
