    Stealing Base Problem

In franchise mode, classic baserunning interface, man on 1st and 3rd

I hit the circle button which represents first base runner, and L2.

Both runners steal, with man at 3rd of course being out.

How do I get JUST the guy on first to steal? Seems I am doing exactly what it says in the Controls part of the ingame menu, for Classic Base running. But both guys take off, even though I only tell the one on first to.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Continue to keep the button pressed while hitting L2.

If you have a guy on 1st and 2nd, the guy on 1st can't steal unless the guy on second also goes. Unless i'm reading your description wrong, it worked as it should have

I automatically read it as 1st and 3rd but yeah he did say first and second so both would have to go.

I have tried that too, will give it a go again I guess. But seems its happened a few times now. They say hold button in while tapping L2, I think thats what I'm doing. Strange. I must be doing something wrong.

I have even saved the game, when in this situation, and when it happens, I use the PS button to quit the game, and restart it from xmb and load in game save, so I could experiment with it.

            Beats me

You have the ensure that circle is pressed when L2 is Tapped. Emphasis on tapped because if you hold L2 any time after you let off of circle all runners will be sent. Kind of makes it too hard to bat when you have to put extra thought toward baserunning but you'll get used to it with experience

Well I got to this situation, 1st and 3rd and saved the game. I tried several times, making sure I followed the in game "Controls" Instructions for Classic Base Running, and what you people have suggested, and every single time, the guy on 3rd ran home.

There is apparently two types of steals, Queued and Manual. In Manual you hold BOTH buttons down (circle and L2) and release when you want to jump. That way too failed, the guy on 3rd ran home.

I have copied the in game save to my usb drive, so can try it again, if I or anybody out there has some other ideas. Otherwise I just have to conclude, it simply does not work correctly in PS3, MLB14. Never had the problem before.

I am out of ideas. And it truly looks like a bug to me. Trying to think if there is some other setting affecting it, but can't think of anything.

                Thanks for any ideas.

                  Re: Stealing Base Problem

I would love for a menu we could get to to just queue the steal ourself.

Like hit one of the d pad buttons that brings up a menu of possible baserunning options we could select pre-pitch. It would solve this problem.

(Of course I would want the current option to stay, just have this as a backup for scenarios like this).

It would also eliminate having to worry about this stuff when we should be concentrating on the at bat.

I will give it a shot tonight. You are referring to the PS4 correct? You said PS3.

                          Re: Stealing Base Problem

Why don't you just switch to default controls?

All the buttons work the same, L1 to lead, R1 to go back, you can either tap L2 to steal or hold and release it when you want him to take off and you choose which runner you want to send with the left stick and I know it works.

Plus it leaves your right thumb free for hitting.

Thanks for this suggestion. I was hesitant about default as it seems more complicated, but I use auto baserunning anyway, so shouldn't matter.

It worked! I reloaded that situational save from my usb drive, pushed L to the right, held it there, and pused in on L2 and let go of them. Guy on first stole, though thrown out, but most importantly, guy on 3rd stayed put. Hooray!

I guess I will stick with default, using auto running decisions etc, I guess it doesn't much matter which one I use. Thanks mucho.
