As someone who works in IT, I feel that 95% of everyday people have no idea how complicated something like this is. A distribution of software on this large of a scale takes an incredible amount of resources.

No, some of us do. Like I said before, that is something that should have been considered by Sony before making statements about downloading at 12:01.

Certainly, but in the same regard you must be held accountable for the promises you make especially in retail. Its not as if they are rushing to get it to work for the first time right now. This has been in the works for weeks and then simply dropped the ball.

If you can't make your product available at the date and time promised, then don't advertise it as such. I don't care how hard it is to perform. Don't say it's available at 12:01 if it's not. Why apologize for a company making things more difficult for it's consumers. Demand the best from them, so that you get the best... so many of you are sad servants...
