I just played today's game vs the Orioles with my Yankees. I lost in a heartbreaker, 6-5, in 15 innings. I was down 3-0 in the ninth but Brian Roberts hit a solo home run then Carlos Beltran tied it up with a two run homer. In the twelfth, I was up 7-5. I got cocky, and put in my {tired} star closer David Robertson. He allowed several hits, and I took him out. Eventually, the O's got a run. I won the series 2-1 though, which is good because they're in my division. I'm tied with the Rays for 3rd place in the Wild Card Race, and they're also in my division. It'll be interesting. Now it's the All Star Break, then a series with the Reds.
To be a little realistic, I'm taking a little break with my franchise to "simulate" the All Star Break. Yankee's first game back is Friday, I believe, vs the Reds.

Depends on if we use max effort or not.

Oh, did I say that out loud? LOL

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

The Marlins continue to languish in 4th place, around 10 games out of first.

Same song and dance really: Not much hitting and up-and-down-but-usually-okay pitching.

Jose Fernandez had his second bad outing of the year recently as part of a 3-game sweep suffered at the hands of the Cubs. Eovaldi and Desclafani didn't help matters either.

Overall, the Marlins are 33-39 on the season.

Giancarlo Stanton looks to be entering another slump after what was a sort of hot streak for him. His batting average is back under .230. He does have 16 HR in 245 AB, which isn't too bad, but he's still not been the huge impact bat the Marlins have hoped he'd be.

The "T-word" [trade] has come up again. The Marlins haven't put him on the trade block...yet...but if he continues to show inconsistency, he might be there come July along with the team starting to actively shop the young slugger.

On the pitching side, Fernandez is still strong, 9-1 with a 2.20 ERA. A few bold teams have dared mention his name in trade talks, but the Marlins were having none of that.

Eovaldi might be in a fight to avoid 20 losses. His record has dropped to 1-10 on the season. Brad Hand has been even worse in terms of ERA. Eovaldi is at a 4.20 ERA, Hand is in the 4.60's with a 4-7 record.

Rookie Andrew Heaney is suffering his first slump as a big leaguer. His quality start rate is now down to 50% after a red hot start. His ERA is now reflective of that start as it climbs to 3.23. Fellow rookie Anthony Desclafni has appeared for 2 starts - both quality starts but the second start was more of a struggle for him.

The bullpen is still decent. Cishek is really doing well when he gets the chance. His ERA is 1.84. Carter Capps remains the unsung hero with his team-leading 42 appearances and solid 2.63 ERA.

          Farm Notes:

-SP Tyler Kolek has been named one of the top 50 prospects in the game. He is just 3-3 for the Suns, but has a 2.54 ERA and 73 K's in just 60 1/3 innings of work. He'll make his AAA debut soon.

-SP Michael Feliz will likely be joining Kolek in AAA. Feliz has a 2.92 ERA in 64.2 innings, with 60 Ks. Both he and Kolek are demonstrating a sharp rise in velocity and slowly adding in some of the finer points of pitching as they go.

-SP Adam Conley was recently promoted to New Orleans and won his first AAA start, going 8 innings and allowing just 1 run with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Perhaps the Marlins should look to trade a few of these young arms for some young bats.

-Marlins signed* knuckleballer Steven Wright to AAA New Orleans. He's expected to make a start for the Zephyrs sometimes within the week.

*Wright was not in the roster, so I signed some nobody from the FA Pool and edited him to be Wright using info from FanGraphs

-The only hitter that looks close to maybe helping the offensive woes at the parent club? LF Kyle Jensen. He's no top prospect and might not have any upside at all, but he's posted a .740 OPS so far for AAA New Orleans. Nothing fancy, but that's better than every other Marlins regular aside from Stanton...

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

I am 7 games up on the Reds with 8 to play. We just started a 3 game series where all I need is to win one game to clinch the division. However the Reds took game one with a 3-1 victory. Mike Keake was good but his defense was outstanding.

The rest of the playoff outlook:

AL EAST: Orioles lead the Rays by 6 with 8 to play

            AL CENTRAL: Tigers have clinched

AL WEST: A's have clinched. Also clinched best record in AL.

AL WILD CARD: Angels and Rays lead. Rangers are 4 back of Rays. Angels win and clinch spot.

NL EAST: Nationals have clinched. Also clinched best record in AL.

NL WEST: Diamondbacks lead Padres by 1/2 game with 8 to play. That race will come down to wire it appears.

NL WILDCARD: Padres and Dodgers lead the Reds by 4 games with 8 to play. Padres are a win away from clinching playoff spot.

I want to clinch so I can rest starters and get young guys some time against quality opponents and in meaningful games. I finish season against D'Backs who are fighting for NL WEST crown
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

My 2014 NYY regular season has come to a close. At a record of 96-66, we clinched the division! Here are some basic numbers:

              BA. .251
              ERA 3.80

              Ellsbury .289 28 HR 78 RBI * 59 SB (* 1st in AL in SB)
              Jeter .242 7 HR 54 RBI
              McCann .261 41 HR 95 RBI
              Soriano .223 32 HR 82 RBI (186 SO)
              Teixeira .257 37 HR 102 RBI
              K. Johnson .242 14 HR 55 RBI
              Beltran .246 34 HR 104 RBI
              Gardner .290 11 HR 41 RBI
              Roberts .246 10 HR 43 RBI

              R. Ewing .333 4 HR 11 RBI
              Nunez .212 3 HR 28 RBI
              Cervelli .258 7 HR 18 RBI
              Solarte .212 1 HR 3 RBI

              Sabathia 15-6 3.21 81 BB 204 K
              Kuroda 11-10 3.68 76 BB 168 K
              Tanaka 15-8 3.82 62 BB 171 K (AL ROY winner)
              Pineda 17-8 3.02 79 BB 225 K* (* 4th in AL)
              Nova 15-7 3.58 90 BB 189 K

              Phelps 1-1 4.96 30 BB 82 K
              Claiborne 2-6 4.07 19 BB 43 K
              Miller 4-3 2.67 37 BB 50 K
              Robertson 1-6 5.46 31 BB 50 K
              Thornton 4-0 4.01 17 BB 48 K
              Marmol 6-2 3.93 44 BB 89 K (mid season aquisition)
              Aceves 4-5 3.88 32 BB 58 K 33 saves

So all in all it was a pretty good year. I started the season on PS3 using Default AS (Timing/Classic/QC's only). For the next third of the season I spent a lot of time pitching on Dynamic Difficulty, and for the final third I spent the remainder on AS again, tweaking sliders for season 2.

But looking at it all, at least using this mish-mash method, the numbers look great!

Currently sitting in a 1-1 split facing Texas in the ALDS. Darvish probably set some kind of record in game one, going the distance for the shutout and striking me out a season record 17 times. LOL! I was so lost.

Game two was great, as Pineda was his somehow always phenomenal self, allowing 1 run over 7 setting me up for the split.

Soriano was abysmal this season. Fortunately for me I have this OF prodigy (big time contact and power) in a guy named Richard Ewing. He will be the Yankees starting RF next season, while Beltran (who was terrible but has a long term contract) DH's.

Sabathia and Pineda lead the way to the playoffs, folks. The pen, on the other hand, is a **** show and will be addressed in Free Agency. It was so bad for a while there, I traded for Carlos Marmol before the break. If Carlos freaking Marmol is your best reliever, you know you're in bad shape. LOL!

Robertson was a disaster and lost his closing role early. Fortunately, Alfredo Aceves embraced the role with open arms, and as of now will be NYY's CP in 2015.

              * Offseason wish-list: Sign Hanley Ramirez

              * Offseason to-do list: Manually injure A-Rod for 200 more games. He will never wear pinstripes in this guy's Franchise.

              * Offseason WTF list: Apparently cutting Jason Giambi's manhood off by manually injuring him on the Disabled List screen would not be enough to prevent him from winning the AL Cy Young award. Somehow, P. Goldschmidt of ARZ would also win 2014 NL MVP. Goldschmidt did this with his bits in tact, by the way. I honestly had no idea he was rated so high, but wow, he's a stud in this game!

Off to game 3 of the ALDS! Cross your fingers for me!

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Recently scrapped a 60+ games played Red Sox season due to lack of a challenge. Using the plate indicator while hitting became too easy. Add the fact Boston possesses a lot of power, and we became unstoppable. To the point we rang up 16 straight wins before I decide to start over.

Now I'm running with the Cubs, once again using TNK's sliders. Only difference being plate indicator is now off. Currently 0-3 after Pittsburgh swept up to open the season.

Starting over might have been a knee jerk reaction, but we had an 11 game lead in the AL East, and I honestly saw no one catching us.

Should have no problem making up all those games again with nothing coming out for months in PS4. Looking forward to seeing where this new Cubs franchise goes.

LOL! There's a glitch in the game that causes Jason Giambi to get credited as a pitcher. I manually injured him with something particularly nasty sounding a few weeks back (can't remember exactly what injurying I used) and he still somehow won the award.

I usually make an Astros franchise and play with it most of the time. I am doing something different this year by starting a Chise with the Cubs. I like their prospects and the core they are building in the majors, and I'm not gonna lie, the Samarzdija trade had something to do with it too.
I wanted to sim to the 4th of July to do THE trade. The way I was able to get Addison Russell without force trades on was I changed his potential down from a 99 to a 30 and was able to pull off the real trade without the PTBNL.
I am going to back track to the draft in which I thought was pretty successful. I drafted an A in the first round and B's for the rest of the draft except for the last round, last pick was c pot. My A potential guy I drafted is a stud 19 year old OF already rated as a 71. His speed and defense could use some work but his hitting ratings look superb.
Our record a few weeks from the AS break is I believe 40-47 (not on right now so can't remember, but somewhere around there) It's a better record than I thought I would have by this point but I'm not complaining, although I would like a high draft pick next year.
Going to play more games now since I've pretty much simmed half the season so wish me luck.

                            Marlins Franchise

42-51 Heading into the All-Star break 11 games behind the 1st place Mets, 10GB Wildcard spots. A mix of mediocre bats, an ailing rotation and a fragile bullpen leaves much to be desired for the second half.

                            Offense

                            - Stanton's having a good year hitting .287 with 19 HR's and 61 RBI's opening up the possibility of trade talk if the Marlins don't show improvement towards the deadline.

                            - Injuries to Solano, Lucas and Furcal leave a weak middle infield with Dietrich/Hechavvaria hitting around .200 a piece and less than 30 RBI's between them.

                            Pitching

With Fernandez on the DL and very few positives in the rotation many differing attempts for consistency have been used, with little success achieved.

                            Current Rotation:

                            - Alvarez
                            - Heaney
                            - Eovaldi
                            - Desclafani
                            - Zito

Zito was signed to a 1yr deal with a club option for a second, the possibility of him filling the role until Fernandez returns or Nicolino being promoted from Double A is most likely. Not expecting much, Zito looked like delivering after throwing 5 shutout innings in his first start with the 86mph fastball 'overpowering' hitters at the plate. However after a 5 run 6th inning involving 3 errors and a wild pitch Zito exited the game allowing only 1 earned run but on the hook for the loss.

No rally from the Marlins meant defeat for Zito in his first start back, as the Mets increased their divisional lead.

A turning point in the season will arrive in the coming weeks as the Marlins head towards the deadline and assess if they will be buyers/sellers.

Sadly overwrote over my Yankees one, looked for it today and found one with 0-0 records to everyone. Damn it. So I started one with the pitch edits one. Fantasy Draft, sort of the same team I had with better pitching plus hitting.

Thus far played 2 games, Greinke and the Stros beat us 2-1. I had Kazmir going. 2nd game was Ubaldo v Shelby Miller, saving Tanaka for game 3.

                              Then this happened.

Well after losing the first two games of the series vs the Reds, we won game three and with 6 games left in the season, we (Cardinals) finally clinched the Central division.

The only division left up for grabs is the NL West where the D'Backs and Padres are separated by 1/2 game. Both teams have clinched a playoff birth though. The AL Wildcard still has to be decided as the Rays have the last spot with the Rangers 2 GB with 6 to play.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
