    Any way to practice fielding?

I'm totally new to the MLB series. Really enjoying MLB 14 on the PS4 very much. However I'm getting really frustrated with the fielding.

Is there any mode to practice fielding??

Also I'm having trouble throwing to the correct bases. I'm playing RTTS as shortstop. I am on Button mode for fielding. According to the control guide, it says I should it Circle to throw to first. However when I do this it throws to third base. I have to hit Square to throw to first? Likewise when I hit Triangle it throws to Home instead of second. WTH?

Also I've made quite a few bad throws to first that result in errors. But I am not sure why. Is there something I need to do besides hit the right button and hold it a bit for the right strength?

    Thanks!

In RTTS the throw controls are indeed the other way around. Because the camera is behind you in that mode so they flipped it. So square is 1st base x is 2nd, circle 3rd and triangle home.

For me, fielding buttons ALWAYS need to stay with home at x and first base at circle.

There should be a setting to make it like that.

I like the way it is..for rtts it makes sense to u square for first, X for second and so forth.

I agree. I'm new to The Show and it messed me up a few times, but now that I've got it down I really like it. To the OP, what helped me (as a SS) get used to it was always keeping my thumb on button for the base I thought I'd make the play at and knowing what button to change to as a backup.

I changed mine to standard button layout (Catcher layout) on the PS3. Played my first game on the PS4 last night and threw to third on a bunt.

Changed it on PS4 now too.

Thanks guys. So RD_Rabin you are saying there is an option to change the button layout to Catch layout? Where specifically is it, in case I can't find it when I look later?

Can someone explain how the hold times on the buttons should be worked to impact the speed of the throw? Holding longer makes it go faster but takes you longer to get the ball on the way. Where do you draw that line?

So there is no mode where you can practice catching flies or throwing the ball around the field, including hitting the cutoff man? In a game that is so deep in so many ways I can't believe they would not include a fielding practice option!

I wonder if there is some workaround - like to play a two player game by yourself and hit the ball and run around. But I guess the CPU will automatically end the play right after a hit. Humm.

So, to return to the original question: is there no way to practice fielding? It seems strange that there's a batting practice mode, a pitching practice mode, even a base-stealing mode, but no way to practice fielding. Am I missing something?

                      Just in RTTS.

HO beat me to it. Setting up your own community challenge is the only way to get fielding practice.

That's a line that every major league infielder must find.. sometimes it's best to go quick other times hold it longer. Though make sure you preload the throw.
