XB360 conversions to PS4 due to this game!

I've noticed several XB360 owners who've commented that they did NOT buy Xbox One and have waited to get a PS4 due to this game. I'm one of them. I feel a little dirty as I've been an XB-fanboy for a long, long time (original XBL Beta), and might work for a certain software company located in the PNW.

But, I've also been drooling over this game the last 3-4 years as the selection on XB was lame!

I have to say, I'm really, really liking my PS4. Just got the game and was hoping this thread could serve to centralize some info amongst the peeps like me who are new "XB360-PS4 converts".

Also - I am gonna have several questions, hopefully this will keep some of the longtime PS owners irritation with us newbs to a minimum by asking them in this thead.

    To start with ....

    - what control scheme are you using analog or sticks?
    - what can I bring over from MLB2k experience to this game?
    - what should I really, really like over my past XB baseball experiences?

Likewise. Had a Xbox for a few years and switch to the PS4 strickly because of this game. I do live within a few miles of a certain software company in the Puget Sound region and have some stock in said company. But, you do what ya gotta do.

Totally glad I made the switch when Madden came out.

Re: XB360 conversions to PS4 due to this game!

First off congrats on the switch. Owned both PS and Xbox consoles and personally I prefer Playstation. Right now I just have the 4 but I might invest in a One if I like what they do with the Gears franchise. As for your questions.

-For hitting I use strictly Zone. I don't like using a heavy analog based batting system because I feel it isn't realistic. Pitching I use meter. I'm use to the old show games so i'm just more comfortable that way. With Fielding I don't use the meter. Again this is a habit born from older show games. You can test each way to see what you are comfortable with. Finally with base running I use buttons. Trying to run with the analog stick is hell for me. I prefer keeping things simple. Especially since I play with everything on Hall of Fame and No Guess Pitch.

-Nothing. They are two separate games and they play very differently. Admittedly I never played much of the 2k franchise because there was no need to. The only thing you can use is possible baseball strategy gained from that game. Taking the first pitch, punishing fastballs, staying patient. Stuff like that would apply to all baseball games.

-Everything. lol. The show is one of the best sport titles on the market and it will be nothing like anything you're use to with any 2k baseball game. From the atmosphere to the smooth controls you'll enjoy it.

Well that's basically all I can think of. Enjoy =)

Re: XB360 conversions to PS4 due to this game!

I've said it many times in here but that game (MLB 13 The Show) was the reason why I left my 360 in the closet and bought a PS3 last year. I was so convinced by the quality of the game and the PS3 itself that I moved earlier than I tought with the PS4 and waiting for MLB 14 The Show. Never regret the switch and I'm expecting the same for you.

First sliders I played with in MLB 13 was Armor & Swords. Since then, never use anything else since it fit my playing style. So control scheme is about timing and buttons. I would be destroyed online playing with most guys or girls, but I'm having fun, and that's the most important thing.

Like Dvazquez said, you won't bring nothing from MLB 2K to The Show except baseball knowledge and strategies. It's two different beast. In fact, I would compare this to having Pedro Martinez and Carl Pavano (I'm going to hang myself if I say that again, screw you Claude Brochu!).

What you can expect? A game that is so deep that you might get caught wanting to try everything in it but beeing held in one mode and don't look at all elsewhere. If you have a headset, just put it on, let the demo start and start believing that game is the real deal.

Enjoy your experience and have fun, but I'm sure you will. :-)

Re: XB360 conversions to PS4 due to this game!

Welcome! I've owned an XBOX since the original - We're in the same boat. I lurked on OS for years before buying a PS3 for MLB 10 The Show. My PS3 sat idle unless I was playing The Show. I'm not married either system, but The Show is a fantastic experience and a system seller.

For Hitting I use Timing. A recent poll here on OS showed that a majority of users like the TIMING. It's easy to grasp and you can begin guessing pitches and locations as your ability improves.

2k - Blech The one big aspect of the 2K games we are hopeful to see brought over is the commentary. Other than that, leave your habits and tendencies at the door - The Show is much more like REAL baseball.

My advice - When the going gets tough, don't give up. The Show can be brutal on newer players at times. It's still a very tough game and I'm on my 5th edition. Stay patient and have fun!

Re: XB360 conversions to PS4 due to this game!

I converted to PS4 primarily as that's what a lot of guys I've gamed with over the last 5-7 years were deciding as well. Cost analysis, games, etc. After watching the unveils last year I was sold on PS4 and knowing that I'd finally be able to play The Show just sealed the deal for me. I'd toyed previously with selling the 360 to get a PS3, however again most of my gaming cohorts were on the 360 platform, and there was no way my wife was cool with me having a PS3 & 360...when the new generation came out she acquiesced, but it also helps we have an 8 y/o son that she can't say 'No' to on things like this...so when fall/holidays rolled around I had him brainwashed to want a PS4 vs XBONE.

Anyhow, I've mostly been playing Exhibition games, quick pitch for the last couple of days, figured I'd get a hang of things before I start a franchise or RTTS.

I've tinkered with the Catcher view for hitting and after seeing recommendations for 'Catcher 2' I've given it a try and I had great success last night in the two games I played.

Pitching I've gone and switched it to Meter, really not much different than old MVP style I believe, and similar to kicking mechanics in football, etc...basically I've used that mechanic before and it's comfortable. I have changed umpires to Variable, I think it works well...nice getting a pitch that I thought I threw badly or the strike on the corner called a ball...it adds a level of suspense to me.

I'm using Zone hitting, seems to be working well. I took Base Running and turned it to Assist (eg now I'm making those decisions).

Fielding & Throwing has been changed to Assist too as opposed to Auto. Had some problems fielding initially, but have found that as I'm getting to the ball if I take my thumb off of the stick, my player still continues to move and coast into position, it's not like a hard stop. Still trying to get some diving/jumping stops made...

I use the Timing for my batting. For my power hitting 1B, I started putting all my training points into Plate Vision and Batting Clutch. If you have a higher Vision, the Timing is going to be alot easier to use.

Great thing about this game is there are so many ways to play. For example, I use pure analog because I think it's the most realistic, unlike dvaz above It's for the casuals as much as the hard core. I consider myself both..

I once tried 2k, Jeter was on the cover. Owned it for about 20 minutes..so you'll enjoy this much more.

I bought a ps4 solely for destiny this was just a hrmmm lucky happenstance.

I'm glad I went ps4 I've been very very happy with the console up to this point and with regards to this game I'm thrilled with what I've seen thus far, minus a few goofy issues.

when you say meter do you mean the pulsating shadow behind the ball? that is driving me insane.

I to made the switch about 2 weeks ago. Traded my Xbox ONE for a new PS4 and the show. Honestly I was missing my Xbox till I got my hands on the Show now I can say that it is the best choice I have made in a long time.

Played 1 game (reds vs braves) while it installed/downloaded. Very smooth and beautiful. Played on beginner/timed, no meters. Won 5-0, 2 dingers by Jay Bruce, 10K's/1H/7I by Cueto.

More games in a bit, so far I'm digging the interfaces, etc...

Thanks for all the replies so far!!

I started in 07 with a 360. In 2010 traded it for a ps3 and got the show. The ps3 died and my roommate and I lost our plan of buying games so I went back to a 360. When ps4 came out cheaper I knew what my choice had to be. I wanted the system with the show on it and blue ray.

Started with madden then went to 2k and FIFA. Got rid of all three for trade ins and didn't want to pay for online for them to work. Played the ps4 show for the first time Wednesday and am foaming at the mouth. I had the 2012 vita show and liked RTTS. I probably will not stop playing this till next years game if not longer though. Thanks to the trade in bonus I have more than enough starting points in RTTS and will play forever now.

I thought 2k was a fun game. It has nothing on what they made this except commentary

I've been using Timing for Batting and Button for Pitching.

I did try Meter pitching, but my old brain could not cope very well with it. My reactions just aren't there any more. With the bases loaded, it felt like trying to kick a field goal on All Madden. :o

I still use my 360 for TW14 and occasional games of Madden with a friend who won't upgrade his console...

Funny thing about it is I use to play only with the analog dating back to the NCAA MVP days but I just never liked the response of the sticks. Check swinging became a nightmare. Using the left stick to control the bat head and using the buttons to control timing just seems more natural to me. I use to hate pulling back on the right analog stick then pulling up on it.
