Re: Can a A or B potential player become a bust?

Great thread! Playing RTTS. My guy is a D potential because I was very new to the MLB series when I played the scouting games. Now that I'm 25 games in, I'm batting .350, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 15 game hit streak, 12 for my last 24 at-bats, and arguably the hottest player in the minors.

However, my potential is still at a D. That really doesn't make sense. Is there anything I can do to raise his potential, such as send him back to school for a year or something?

My concern is this - like most of you, I am investing a LOT of time playing this game and building up my player. He is crushing it which is great. But if it turns out that he never amount to anything outside the minors that will be a major disappointment and a waste of time. So I am wondering if it pays to just scrap this player and start again with an A or B prospect - which I really don't want to do because I like him and have a lot of time invested already in him.

    What do you guys think?

Your potential will go up if you keep playing well, it's one of the new features this year. My RTTS 2B was drafted in the later half of the 1st round so I came in with a B potential, after tearing through AA and having a few solid weeks in AAA my potential went up to A so it's possible for you to grind your guy up to a high potential player.

This thread is discussing whether or not it's possible for this to happen to a prospect in franchise mode though, so try to keep it on topic next time or just start up your own thread.

I believe they can bust, as well as for me personally I've noticed that players who aren't projected to do much can still be very productive. In my Marlins franchise I have this guy called Kevin Abreu who was tearing up Triple A. I decided to call him up as a bench bat and eventually he worked his way into my starting centerfielder spot. He had C potential and was like 65 OVR and now he's worked his way up to 73 OVR with B potential, super cool.

Those are the stories that I like to hear. He will never be a superstar but he turned into a very serviceable major league player.
