Gerald Laird at Shortstop by AI?! What?!

Hey, anybody seeing strange behaviors from the AI, in terms of where it puts players to play?
I was playing against the Braves in my franchise and they double switched, and put in Gerald Laird to play.
Thing is, he was put in the SHORTSTOP position and ended up playing the rest of the game at shortstop.

If you don't know him, he is a catcher and fat.
I checked his real life 11-year career and he never played SS. Ever.

So I'm guessing there may be a bug on the game, that if they double switch, the AI don't pay attention to the substitute ability to play at positions.
Probably they took out the SS cause he was the last one to bat and placed Laird in there, disregarding his (in)ability to play there.

Here is the new Braves shortstop:
    Quite agile, isn't it? :P

Seems like a decent plot for a bad sports movie.

This fall, he is Short and cannot Stop eating, Jack Black is, The Shortstop.

Played Arizona the other day and they double switched and put Eric Chavez in RF, I kept trying to purposefully hit it at him and failed miserably lol.

That's disappointing. I played against the Yankees last night and Cervelli pinch hit for Kelly Johnson and stayed in the play 2B. I thought that was cool because I've seen the Yankees actually play him there and thought it was based on it actually happening before but I guess it was just random.

Also in the same game, which went extra innings with a lot of substitutions, I tried to move my DH to play in the field but the game wouldn't let me. That's a rather lame restriction unless there's something I'm missing and it can be done.

The DH can play in the field, but once a manager decides to play him on defense, the pitcher immediately takes over the batting spot of the defensive player which the DH replaced (unless there are multiple substitutions, in which case the manager can decide where the pitcher will bat). The team then forfeits the use of the DH for the rest of the game. This happens a few times every season, and sometimes results in a pitcher being forced to bat in an AL game.
The DH spot is locked in the order. If the DH bats, for example, fifth in the order, no substitution can be made to move him to fourth or sixth, or anywhere else.
I get that it should be in the game. But that seems more difficult than it is worth.

I'm new to The Show, and I love it, but I can't think back to the last baseball game I've played where it wasn't an option to put your DH in the field. It seems like an odd omission for such an otherwise awesome game.

So much for setting the secondary positions, yet they still mess up. If it was Laird on 3B that may be acceptable as I've seen many catchers play as 3rd baseman when necessary, mostly 1B though. But SS would be funny to see, not realism though so that will also bug me . During exhibiton games for fun sure but not for season play.

What seems to happen is the cpu likes to pinch hit and pinch run a lot late in the game when it's behind. With the limited number of players on the bench it many times ends up with players playing out of position. I would like to see those pinch hitters and pinch runners limited or in future versions have the ability to customize the AI to your liking on decisions like this.

In some computer simulation games I've played sometimes you'll get a pop up stating the CPU is going to pinch hit right now, or pinch run, or bring in a new reliever. You then click yes or no if you want that to happen or not.

It's not for everybody but it would maybe help prevent situations like this.

So I went back to the game I saw this and got the screenshot from the box score.
                          Here is Laird playing shortstop:

That gives an explanation of why this appeared to have happened.

                            1. Laird pinch hit for Simmons
                            2. Doumit pinch hit for Uggla
                            3. Doumit reached base and was pinch run for by Schafer
                            4. Pastornicky then pinch hit for the pitcher's spot

The AI has used up all its position players and the only thing left to do is leave Laird where he is once the next inning starts. That's at SS since he originally pinch hit for Simmons.

Laird would never pinch hit for Simmons in real life but the AI is just looking at the numbers. Laird probably has better contact against lefties or righties depending on who they were facing.

I'd really like to see less pinch hitting and pinch running from the AI or give us a way to control it. It's too hard for the AI to move players around positions and make the adjustments of a real human being.

The AI can do some off things sometimes. I've had the Dodgers lead off Adrian Gonzalez and various other strange lineup decisions. Even when you look at the ratings some of them don't make any sense. These odd AI decisions are rare, but they stand out due to how odd they are.
