Re: 30 Team Control Off-Season Contracts

I'm with all of you guys on the wanting of realism in the game but when it comes to contracts we aren't going to get it without SCEA SD's help. First off the reason that Majors money is low but budgets seem right is due to Minor leaguers making more money then they should. Plus I also feel that the same can be said about the scout and coach money too but I haven't looked them up to find out. Part of the reason for this is not SCEAs fault because the Minors aren't part of a union and thus the only time that we hear of most Minor league contracts is when the big timers get paid and their agents want to leak what their signing bonus was and the money on top of slot they got. Now this should be different with the new CBA because what draft picks get paid is pretty much locked.

Anyway this is a big issue that I could write about for some time. So know that the more important part then the direct amount of money is something more important the service time numbers and how often there are outlayers that do get big contracts before loss of control.

Quick question: I turned free agency on manual for my other 29 teams, yet, they continue to offer players contracts. Help?

      Edit: Figured it out!

Gonna bump this and hope to find an answer.

I'm running into an issue with off-season Free Agency. I'm controlling all of Free Agency, and in putting out offers, I'm getting a message that certain teams don't have enough money to afford contracts.

I'm getting this, despite having plenty of budget available. I really don't understand what's going on.

Has anyone else seen this and know why it's happening?

I'd check to see what you have in "Pending" contracts for that team. If the pending contracts plus what they currently have tied up in locked up contracts exceeds the budget then it'd be over. Not sure if this is your case.

Nah it's not. One example, I'm trying to sign Erik Aybar to the Orioles. They have $30M available budget, $17M in pending offers, yet it's saying the team cannot afford to give him a $3M per year contract.

It seems to have to do with arbitration eligible players. The game accounts for what they will get in arbitration, but I don't think there is any way to know that myself until they sign a contract or the arbitration hearing is done.

This is just something I read second-hand somewhere, so don't hold me to it 100%, but I believe the issue you're experiencing has something to do with having a 40-man roster filled out or not. The thing being if you only have 22 players on the 40-man (to just choose a random number), the cpu will account for you needing 18 more players (at an unspecified salary per player) to field a proper team and will hold some of the budget in escrow in a way to make sure enough players can be signed. I would recommend skimming the "Successful Offseason Thread" in the PS3 section (I think) by Threeebs. I believe there is some stuff in there on this type of situation.

Interesting. I'll check that out, thanks.

Thanks for the tip. That was, indeed, what was going on. Nice to know for future off-seasons
