Can you control fielders and runners in Exhibition mode?

I'm new to the MLB series and loving it. I've played 100 or so RTTS games and its fantastic. Tonight I tried playing my first exhibition game. However it was really annoying because I couldn't figure out how to control my fielders - I only pitched and the cpu did everything else on the field. Also when batting I only controlled my batter. I think I could tell my baserunner to steal but couldn't control anyone.

I checked in the hitting and batting game play options and do not see anything about controlling fielders or runners on base. My controller however is set to BEGINNER. Maybe that is the problem?

A few questions about Exhibition games please:

1. How do you set things up so that you can control the pitcher but once the ball is hit you automatically control the fielder it is hit to?

2. I want to play two player exhibition game locally with a friend. Can I set it up so that the computer controls their pitcher and my friend controls the fielders? If so, can he control only one position like SS or he'll have control over all fielders?

3. Can you do player lock in an exhibition game? If so, how? I don't see the option, only see the quick count option.

You might have it set to beginner mode i think its called, where it just starts you out hitting/pitching. I think it slowly introduces fielding and base running as you progress but not 100% sure.

3: When it shows the player lineup press R2(i think it is) on the player.
