The check swinging was better (buttons) on last gen...

I actually liked check swinging on PS3 with the buttons and could do it pretty well. The new analog controller doesn't seem to register correctly when I barely tap the button, but the PS3 one worked well.

Not a huge deal but it can be annoying when I am clearly trying to check swing and my guy swings through it.

What is everyone else's experience so far with check swinging?

I have no issues checking with the DS4. I actually like the feel of this controller with the game, everything feels more precise.

I always wondered how this would possibly work with the Dualshock 4 having no pressure sensitivity in the buttons. Unfortunately I haven't played yet on buttons for hitting to find out for myself

I've had mixed results. There's been a couple times where I try to check my swing with a quick tap and my guy fully swung and got me a solid base hit. But I liked it better on ps3 myself.

the 2 controllers are fundamentally different, therefore they have a different feel. PS3 buttons were analog and pressure sensitive. PS4 buttons are digital and not pressure sensitive.

I know and that is why I was worried last year when they announced this.

I was complaining about it because I knew I check swung a lot with success on PS3. PS4 it works okay...but not as good.

It isn't a matter of the umpires appealing my swings and calling them strikes either. It is a matter of the game not registering my check swings when I want them.

Its interesting that you would say that check swing was better on last gen because on last gen I felt like 70% of the time that I checked I would be called for a swing and that like 40% of the time I didn't check swing it would say that I had checked. I found it to be a told toss up on last gen ever year and felt like over all I got the wrong end of the call to much. I havnt played enough on next gen to realy say if I think it is better or not yet.

I've actually had a better experience on current gen than I did on last gen. I was worried when the news came down that it would be a different system, but surprisingly I've had very few instances of wanting to check and swinging or wanting to swing and checking. I had a bit of an issue with the latter on last gen so I'm happy with the changes.

Yeah on last gen I had a lot of times where I would check a swing and not even be close to a swing like a quarter of a swing and they would call it a swing and then I would have times where I would swing and it would be called a ball but on last gen I would say probly like 60% of the time they would get the call wrong.

ok.. just making sure because you said the "new" analog controller. it didn't seem like you knew the buttons were no longer analog.

try contact swing when you have 2 strikes. way more success checking your swing when you are choking up on the bat.

Yeah I should have said digital. I realize PS3 was pressure sensitive and PS4 isn't.

Read my posts above. I am not talking about getting called strikes on check swings or not going all the way around. I am talking about the game not registering my check swings when I want to. Instead my guy is fully swinging and not even attempting to check his swing.

I love the PS4 controller, but I was better at check swinging on PS3.

Without researching wasn't the PS2 and Xbox controllers analog as well? I had no problems checking my swing on there as well.

Oh ok I don't think I have had that problem much but I did have one swing today where I got james and swong even though I though I had tried to check but that was just 1. While I do know that ps2 controls where like ps3 in that the harder he it the button the more of a difference it would make. Like in madden ps2 to do a tuch pass you would just tap the botton where to do a bullent pass you would hold the botton.

So I didn't know that you ment getting a guy to check a swing at all I just thought you meant like it was easyer to not do a like 60% swing on ps3 then ps4 or something.

I'm new to the series, and one of my biggest difficulties is that I check my swing too *often*. I'm using zone plus analog hitting. I guess I really need to flick that stick up firmly, huh? Does putting points into the "discipline" stat paradoxically make me more likely to check-swing when I really want to swing?
