    Stealing too easy.

I know this has been brought up on the PS3 forums but I haven't seen anything here. So if it has been discussed, sorry.

I am currently leading the league in steals, and I'm leading it by a large margin. My leader on the team is Emilio Bonifacio. He currently has 15 stolen bases through 18 games and he's yet to be thrown out. In fact, I believe I've only been thrown out once in 25 attempts. Does anyone else find that stealing is perhaps a bit too easy?

I never like to change settings unless I have to and it has been fun so far to be able to get in scoring position by stealing with the lowly Cubs.

I must really suck at it then because I have a hard time with it..either bad jumps or I get picked off.

But irl there are several catchers, maybe more than several that couldn't throw anyone out if their life depended on it..imo.

Well, I'm not going to change anything for now. I usually try and get an extra step on my leads when I steal. But I'm starting to feel like it's kind of cheating. I may implement a house rule that there are no extra steps on steal attempts before I change any kind of slider setting.

For me, whenever I get an extra step, regardless of with who or whatever the situation, I always draw a pickoff throw. When I don't get that extra step, I seem to get realistic numbers.

Yeah, I anticipate a pickoff throw every time I take an extra step. I'm ready to pounce on the R1 button.

I have Steal ability at 6 and baserunner speed at 4, and I'm getting pretty realistic results. I don't take extra steps on the lead though

I'm actually liking auto baserunning for this. I think it keeps me from stealing excessively, but at the same time the cpu will steal at a reasonable rate. Through 25 games of ST, my team is 14 for 19 in steal attempts using auto baserunning exclusively. The steal aggression ratings really pop when using auto baserunning as well.

18 games into my Rangers franchise and me and NYY lead the league with 26, B.gardner leads the league on 11, i have andrus on 6(3cs) and about 4 other guys on 4-5.

I had one game against the mariners where i got 6sb(1cs), i had andrus, martin, choo, rios and sardinas who all got onbase once or twice and they where using there backup catcher who was poor at throwing.

                  Re: Stealing too easy.

I find arms a little slow in general now that you mention it.

I also think guys hustle it down to first too fast on routine groundballs, cutting out a lot of time needed for the more relaxed throw-overs you always see irl. Irl 8 our of every 10 guys jogs like a fatty if he hits a lazy grounder to one of the infielders, dudes are almost always 100% out of the box in this game. I digress.

My question would be: are the Cubs fast? I happen to think guys with 60+ speed are good to go. When the games uses the whole scale and there are actually guys with 12 and 18 speed running around, and/or when 90% of your team has dudes in the 40's and 50's, the Ian Kinslers and Austin Jacksons of the world (both 69 sp iirc) ought to be fast enough to steal at a decent rate.

Isn't it where a catcher is pretty good if he throws out 50% of attempted steals? True base-stealers, guys who can really fly, don't really get caught that often afaik. I see "slow" guys steal bags all the time (go look it up, even the slowest guy on your team probably had like three steals last year, and second-slowest probably had like six; it's really not all that hard to pull off).

Anyway, since I'm not familiar with the Cubs roster I'm basically TLDR if you're fast enough to warrant those numbers, go with it. If not, I personally think arms are a little slow on default, sure.

That's a good point about stealing percentages. If you're getting thrown out even 1/3rd of your attempts, you probably aren't going to be allowed to steal much anymore.

I think something is a little off with the speed of runners in general, in relation to fielders throwing them out. It's evident on steals, and it's evident on 1st-to-3rds (of which there aren't very many).

I'm trying to figure it out with the sliders, but not having much luck at the moment.

I was watching a game this last weekend and the announcers were talking about pick-offs by the catcher, and that its down to like only a 16% success rate. Players have just gotten faster, etc.
