In effectiveness of the power swing in '14

Has anyone else noticed that using the power swing is not as effective as last years game. I mostly see pop ups. I think last years game was perfect. The normal swing was how it should be, a mix of solid hits with occasional power. Last years power swing gave you a power surge but also had a negative impact on PCI size. This year I feel like the power swing has been under valued. I liked last years hitting model a lot more than this years version. I also noticed a better solid contact sound when using the power swing in last years game. This year every swing sounds very similar no matter what type of contact is made.

I wouldn't say it is completely ineffective, but I think it is more situational based this year. Last year I could probably hit 30-40 homeruns with guys that have 65-75 power by using power. This year it just won't work....

It works great with power hitters (80+ power) so far. I hit quite a few with Chris Carter, but for guys with that medium power range (60-69) I recommend rarely using it. I seem to just fly out, even when I hit it perfect.

Keep in mind, a Power swing does not guarantee a power hit. Even with a Power swing, you have to pick the right pitch to swing at the have good odds of getting an HR.

      From the Strategy Guide:

"Power swings are harder to time, harder to check, and have less plate coverage than regular swings. They are especially less effective at hitting pitches bordering or outside of the strike zone. But the extra
power can turn a deep fly ball into a home run, turn a single into a double, or advance runners extra bases. The drawback is a big increase in misses and strikeouts and a decrease in line drives. The ideal pitch to power swing against is a fastball deep in the strike zone, which is most common on ahead counts"

I myself use power swing with high contact hitters with favorable counts. Find that I can get ground induced singles that get through the infield at a more accelerated pace for hit and runs. For homerun power, I only use it with power hitters just to pile on the runs, not when I have to use it.
