Almost pitched a no-hitter with Kershaw

You cannot fathom the amount of frustration I have right now, but last night I almost did something that I've never done in any baseball game over the years and that is pitch a no-hitter.

I am playing with a Dodgers franchise in my 2nd season (2015) and it's early in the season against the D-backs in a 4 game series. It's game 4 and I'm pitching with Kershaw.

I'm up 2-0 in the 6th inning and I didn't even realize that I was on my way to a no-hitter until Matt Vasgersian said something about it. I said out loud "dude don't jinx me!"

So I'm trekking along and I'm nervous as hell. It's the top of the 9th and of course I'm at the 2-3-4 hitters in the lineup. OF COURSE. Why wouldn't I be in the meat of the lineup on trying to pitch my first no-hitter ever?!

I strikeout Aaron Hill, make Trumbo hit a flyout on a curve, and then Goldy walks up to plate. I'm sweating at this point.

1st pitch, fastball. He looks. 2nd pitch, I make him chase a curveball to the outside. I'm thinking OMG he's chasing ...I got this!!!

    Nope.

I throw a fastball up out of the zone, he chases, barely dings it and pops it up SOFTLY just enough to where it lands out of reach between Uribe and Crawford (between 3rd and LF)! Uribe tries to make a diving catch but he misses it....

Goldy strolls on to 1st base and gives a fist pump. I wanted to punch him in the face.

    .......

I throw my controller which almost breaks it. I still got the shutout with Kershaw.

That's baseball. (i guess. still mad)

I don't mean to be that guy... but how do get 2-3-4 in a lineup with a perfect game?

Outside of that cheers on getting that close, I took one to the 8th before, and playing with the Pirates I had Jordy Mercer at SS, he took his good 'ol time on an easy ground ball and the guy legged it out for a single. I haven't thrown a perfecto or no-no in this game yet, (I've had no trouble in the 2K and MVP series, in fact even threw on command with Phil Hughes on 2K) and the fact I was that close frustrates me even more.

Not sure I understand what you mean. In the top of the 9th I was facing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (cleanup) hitters which were Hill, Trumbo, and Goldschmidt.

Sorry if I'm being dumb but i don't understand what you're asking.

What he means is that in a perfect game, only 3 batters are up an inning, no one gets on base by walk or error. Innings 1, 4, 7 you would face 1, 2, and 3 hitters. Innings 2, 5, and 8 you would face 4, 5, and 6 hitters. Innings 3, 6, and 9, you would face 7, 8, and 9 hitters. In a no hitter situation, you can walk someone, or they could reach by error.

I was going to ask the same exact question about how he was facing 2, 3 and 4 in the lineup.

Yea sorry I meant no hitter. I though a no hitter was a "perfect game". Shows just how much I know lol, but I walked batters in the game.

In last years game I had 26 up 26 down on opening day with Chris Sale. I forgot who i was playing but the next guy bunts to break it up. Naturally I plunked the next guy in the head.

Ouch. Bunt for a hit during a no hitter/perfect game is a big NO! That player would definitely lose respect by other players. I would have plunked the runner at first (whoever bunted) on a pickoff move!

Amazing the tension that can build in this game, one of the things that makes it so great.

I had a couple close calls in MLB 13: Had a no-hitter broken up in the ninth inning with Matt Harvey and wound up losing the game to San Diego 4-2. Had a perfect game with Lincecum through six innings before it was broken up by a double (forgot against who).

Vasgersian is quick to remind you when you're working on a no-hitter.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

As you should have. I would have beaned the next two guys!

I'd like to recommend you don't throw your controller anymore. Nothing that goes wrong in a video game is worth a $60 headache.

Here's a pro tip from a former rage gamer who has changed his ways: If you get frustrated, find a sofa and punch the cushions.

Doesn't cost as much and it's a good workout!

I've thrown 1 no hitter in a video game and it was MLB 13 I believe... but it was against my brother (who is very good at the game, but still not the same as the CPU). Last week, I had one going with Ubaldo in my Orioles franchise against the Astros. Got the 1st guy out in the 8th and then Dominguez walks up. Fastball strike 1. Slider strike 2 (the slider was working wonders for me). My hands were a bit too shaky at this point (not even the 9th inning yet) and I tried throwing a slider down and away but it caught just enough of the plate to get past a diving Jon Schoop.

Paused the game, when to drink some water and take a couple swings at the couch (saw someone's post about punching the couch instead of throwing controllers, i do this as well), and then proceeded to finish the 1 hit shutout

I threw my first and only last season as the Nationals with Jordan Zimmerman. I even got retweeted by the real Nats, haha.
