Fielding....wth?
What in the god forsaken hell is up with the fielding in MLB The Show 14 this year? I thought last year's was bad, but it's been taking to a whole new level of bad in this year's edition. Infielders, outfielders, and especially pitchers play so lackadaisical that it makes routine outs closer than they should be. And now my outfielders are locking in to animations when running down a ball which result in them sticking their glove up while running and then missing the f-ing ball!!!! This just happened in my last game where in the top of 10th, they had bases loaded and a guy hit a routine ball to left center and my CFer got locked in to a running animation and just missed the ball, resulting in 3 runs being scored! There was NOTHING I could do because the game decided to have my CFer catch the ball on the run instead of settling underneath it. F#CK.Tags: None -

Re: Fielding....wth?
For me it seems that the fielding mistakes always seem to come in bunch's. I haven't had issues with my outfielders but the play that's been giving me fits is the medium speed groundball to the six-hole that gets by the third basemen but the shortstop is there to make the play. When I switch control over from the third basemen to the shortstop he just runs right past the ball without any animations kicking in. It doesn't happen all of the time but happens enough of the time to be frustrating. -

Re: Fielding....wth?
I see this impression posted alot, I just do't ever capture that feeling with defense. It seems fielding's biggest issue to me is that it's ridiculously easy and un-challenging to a fault, if left alone. The key to fielding at default is just positioning your player with time to make the play and firmly pressing your throw to it's destination will appropriately handle the urgency and speed of the throw.
I play with no fielding indicator for the ball now, and I still have not remotely had lackadaisical fielding as an impression to the extent I've seen posted here often times. Yea, the 3B is still a little slow and inaccurate to the ball at times (an issue that has plagued the series for a long time). I think the diving by infielders is broken, they just dive blindly and have no sense of understanding where is the ball, never trying to knock it down, rather just fully extending for the sake of diving. I find it better to forsake the dive and just try to position nearest to the ball as you can and they have a few animations to try scooping the ball up in different ways.
I have fielding run speed set to 2, and reactions to 0 and all fielders are on par for me with their ability. It's even refreshing to see less atheletic outfielders not blaze toward every foul ball as they can do on default abilities.Red LegendComment

I've seen multiple threads about this, but I think I'm the only one that hasn't had problems with fielding this year. While there are some legacy issues, I think that fielding has a good feel to it. If you're having that many problems, maybe try changing the fielding camera.Comment

I haven't had any issues with fielding either. In fact, I simply enjoy it. For me it feels smooth and balanced.I've seen multiple threads about this, but I think I'm the only one that hasn't had problems with fielding this year. I just had AJ Pierzynski double down the right field line. The right fielder was picking the ball up before he even rounded 1st base, but because of the animation AJP comfortably made in to 2nd. His game speed is 9, so the game knew the animation was coming and sent him knowing he'd be safe.Comment

As a whole I don't have any issues with the fielding mechanics it's just that one specific play that the fielders get a little weird on me.Comment

I use auto fielding. There was a bunt where Kershaw actually turns his back as the bunt is in action and of course the runner is safe--I have the video. The other one is even more troubling, a player with 66 speed steals second on a 95 mph fastball strike in zone and Yadier Molina throwing to second with an accurate throw.Comment

Re: Fielding....wth?
My only problem with grounders in the infield, is the infinite hustle that the runners always show going to first. In real games on easy routine grounders where the batter knows he's out you'll see him running out of the box, but after the fielder makes the play and is doing the double clutch(which is in the game) the runner is just kind of jogging his way the rest of the way to 1st.
However on the Show every runner shows and has infinite hustle, every runner treats it the same forum Billy Hamilton to David Ortiz. They only got part of this play right, they did a good job with the fielders but seemingly forgot to adjust the batter in this situation.
Now I can kinda see where this comes from as I can see now the ignorant users that go my guy should be running as hard as he can everytime all the time it cost me a win! But we all know this isn't realistic, you can't go 100% every play and you see this I don't know how many times during games. The result of this is having to adjust runner speed which forces you to adjust other things which forces you to adjust other things.
Sorry for the long post, but I've been thinking of starting a thread on this for awhile now but thought it would fit in night here though.

I honestly think there is a problem with deep right field in Fenway; I've had Ichiro miss several normal fly balls due to being where the marker is, and the ball drops a bit away. I think the proportions there might actually be off a bit, it keeps happening in that deep Right Field area.Comment

For me it's, why does my infielders underhand the the ball when they are too far for that kind of throw, and if they are going to do that why not underhand it so it's on a straight line and not a mountain ball, too many times I lose out on a double play cause my fielder underhands it when he should be throwing overhand.Comment

I just watched my CF jog to warning track and wait for a ball to hit off the wall that he could've easily caught. Next play the same CF fields a base hit and froze a few seconds before throwing home. I lost 4-3
