What's strange is that I always find it easier to strike the CPU out early in the games. Take last game for example. I was pitching with Samardzija and we were playing against the Cincinnati Reds. In the first inning I gave up one hit but all three outs recorded were strikeouts, including Joey Votto and Jay Bruce. I thought, "well, alright, this will be good."
Over the next two innings I recorded one punchout each frame so I had five strikeouts after the first three innings. Looking good. Well, the game progressed and Samardzija was simply on. I was able to toss a complete-game with him, giving up just one run and allowing somewhere around five hits.
However, I failed to record a single strikeout after the fourth inning, so I ended up with five K's over 9 innings.
If I'm not mistaken, the CPU makes adjustments to your pitching strategy. But I try and mix it up. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable baseball fan, I played most of my life, and I coached at the high school level for seven years. So I know a bit about pitching, changing speeds, location, working hot and cold zones, corners, etc.
Have any of you guys noticed that the CPU is more difficulty to strike out as the game progresses, at least when using the same pitcher? It's realistic to some degree because I've always been of the belief that seeing a pitcher multiple times in a game is advantageous to a hitter. So when a guy throws a complete game, you see him 3-5 times during the game and if you're smart, you'd be wise not to chase a 1-2 slider away for the fourth time in a row, that is unless you're Alfonso Soriano.
Either way, I'm loving how the game plays now with the difficulty, the settings, and sliders I'm using but I just need to figure out a way to get some more strikeouts here and there. I am seriously considering lowering the CPU timing slider one click because in the description it says that it is the slider that will result in more swings and misses and that, as we all know, means more strikeouts. But I don't want that to change the game in any other major way.
