    Minor League contracts.

Eli Whiteside, one of my Triple-A catchers is out with an injury, leaving me with just five total catchers in my entire organization now. I went into the free agent pool to sign an aging veteran to replace him on the Triple-A roster with little to no chance of a Major League call-up and I found Henry Blanco (former Cub). A good fit for me as I see it. But when I signed him he was automatically placed on my Major League roster. Why would he not be placed on the Triple-A roster. I know I can just designate him for assignment and there's very little chance anyone would claim him but I don't know that he'll be on my roster the next day.

Is there a way to sign players to minor league deals or do free agents automatically go on your Major League roster?

I don't believe there's a way to specify a minor league contract, but I have been wondering about something. Did you have an open spot on your 40 man roster when you signed Blanco? I have a theory (probably wrong) that if you sign a FA with a full MLB and 40 man roster, it will give them a "minor league" contract.

I would think that he had an open spot on the 40 man. Otherwise it would have made him remove a player off of the 40 man before the signing could be completed.

When you are on the screen listing the free agents, look at the pane that shows your current MLB players at the same position. Now, it says on the screen iirc but it is either R1 or moving the R analog stick and that will change to showing your current AAA players at the same position and so on and so forth. Do this before you sign them and they will not be added to the 40 man roster.

Can anyone else confirm that this works?

It does not work for me. I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to sign a guy to a Minor League deal.

I'm at work or I'd give you exact instructions.

Open up the free agents and on one side of the screen, it will list all of the free agents. At the top of that pane with all FA listed, it shows you how to cycle through ALL, SP, RP, CP, 1B, etc, basically viewing only FA with that primary position. When you cycle through the positions, the other side of the screen will show all current MLB players at that position. At the top of that, it tells you how to scroll through MLB, AAA, AA, A. BEFORE you select the FA that you want to sign, make sure that you have the level you want him assigned to is selected. If you have the MLB players on that pane, they will be added to your MLB squad and 40 man roster. MAKE SURE IT IS ON AAA or lower and it will be a minor league contract.

Yes, I can confirm that this works.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
