More then the Majors
Just curious to see what other guys do. If you have a stud in the minors do u just stick with ur MLB squad and leave his health and stats up to chance? Or do u take an active approach and play with the player(s)?Tags: None -
Re: More then the Majors
As a Cubs Franchise, I have Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Arismendy Alcantara and pitchers CJ Edwards, Pierce Johnson, Kyle Hendricks and Corey Black who are all good enough to get on my depressingly-bad MLB roster.
I only called up Alcantara and Hencdricks in 2014, just like the real Cubs so far. In 2015, I plan on (in Spring Training right now) calling up Soler and I have to start a Rule 5 pitcher. I'm going to keep Baez in AAA and promote Russell and Bryant to AAA while keeping all Pitchers under 20-21 in AA and Pitchers over 21 in AAA unless they have no experience. I plan on calling up Baez in the first month, Russell near the All-Star break and Bryant just after Russell. Almora will stay in AA/AAA all year and be promoted in 2016.
I will call up a 65-70 C prospect before I'll call up a 70s A/high-B prospect. I only call up A/high-B prospects within 13-17 points of their potential rating and only when they are performing well. I keep all A/B prospects that are below 64 in single-A. A prospects below 70 will stay in AA until they hit 70. -

I also have all my A/B Rule 5-Eligible players on my 40-man, of course, so they will get called up as well.Comment

Re: More then the Majors
For pitchers, who often have stamina in the high 50s to high 60s, I will leave them in the minors until they have stamina in the low- to mid-70s, just so they can spot-start and/or throw several innings of long relief.
For position players, I typically won't call them up until they're league-average in the field for their position. If I have an AL team, then I'll waive that requirement and DH the player, but I like to have my young players at least hold their own in the field because I value pitching and defense in almost all my franchises.
The big exception is if I have a clearly defined role player in the minors whose 1 skill is so significant that it deserves representation on the MLB club. That 1 skill tends to be the ability to hit LHP for contact, to field MIF positions above league-average levels (you can find a lot of MILB guys who are 75+ for fielding attributes across the board and can be used as late-game defensive replacements), or to deliver a high K/9 out of the pen in limited use.Comment

Re: More then the Majors
Any studs I have, will play a year at AAA and then I'll make a decision from there. Because I do a play 1, sim 5 franchise, I just play the majors. Only time I'll call them up is injury or the sep 1 callups.Comment
