True, but still there should be guys that are able to hang on.

Vlad didn't get a contract at 35 but Julio Franco played for like 100 years and Charlie Hough was almost 50 when he retired. Same for Jaime Moyer.

I would like to see SOME guys like that. Especially if they are still at least decent and didn't suffer a major injury (so they are good and still healthy, yeah they all don't stick around, but they shouldn't just almost always retire either). Let me and other teams decide if I want to bring them back or not sometimes. Let some guys hang around on the FA pool waiting for another chance for a while.

Maybe on the Marlins, I won't bring back a 35-year-old that still has skills (like the Vlad example) but on a Win Now team, I'd do it if it's like when Dunn up and quit on me with a growing power rating near 90...

I haven't had a "Vlad decision" in my franchises.

But if SDS is trying to keep the ps3, ps4 and vita Show versions compatible, then increased roster sizes may be a good 5 to 6 years away.
      :v(

Well, I could just vacate my A-ball. I mean, there's mostly D players who are too old there anyway.

I get that roster size has to be limited, but we could also just cut players to make room and if roster is too big, you have to deal with it anyway, which means we'd just make cuts?

If you want a player to stay around longer, try to tie him up in a long term contract that runs through an age you'd like to see him stick around.

For instance, you see Mike Trout as a free agent at age 28, instead of giving him a 10 year contract and when it's done, he retires at 38, you go 4 years instead and then at age 32, try to get him to a 8-10 year (or whatever age you'd like him to stick around for) contract.

The main problem here is, unless you tweak ratings, when they 'would' retire (that 34, 36 often) they really tank in ratings...so you have to increase them...but the problem here is in one month they can DROP 10-12 OVERALL and across categories.

You can get Cabrera or others to often stick to age 40 if you would like using this method.

Having Miggy around when he's 40 is fine for the Show but I'd be surprised if he plays another 9 years IRL

I don't have a problem with guys retiring mid 30s.....doesnt effect me considering once a player hits 30 they r considered a dinosaur to me haha.

Baseball has busts in the first and takes time before they get there.

But simming multiple years in the future I have seen drafted players as mvps, league leaders and Cy young award winners.

I think the biggest complaint people have is the cpu drafts on potential. I think this is better than last year where teams drafted on overall and you could find good young A potential players late in the draft.
FYI we took the average retirement age for real MLB players the past 10 years and created a dice roll from those numbers. Guys retire when they should for the most part.

Can you sign players to extensions yet? I'm kinda a pure RTTS player so I haven't had much franchise play but that could be an easy work around with 30 team control if you can. They never retire under contract.

The problem, I believe, is that it shows you retired players to start the offseason, then you get to negotiate contacts. There's no chance to even offer older players with the skill to start. You can't negotiate during the season, either, to try and extend potential retirees.

But I realize too many teams would simply re-sign those players and we'd be complaining about too many old players...
