I'm in the lower third as a team in avg as I should with this team, but my HRs and extra base hits are where they should be in the top half, top third.

I have had games where I put 15 runs up and I've also been shutout. I've had a few instances where the PCI was way off, but it's always BJ, Uggla, if Schafer who miss like that. Freeman and Chris Johnson are always right on the ball. I only strike out with those guys if I chase something or am way off on timing. Then my guys who are around 50 in contact sometimes swing and miss with normal timing, but also crush the ball with normal timing.

I've easily hit more hanging balls into gaps or over the fence than I have not. There's been times where Gattis gets a 3-0 popout on a fastball right down the middle, but that's realistic. He's done it a few times this year in real life. But the majority of the time I get one with him, Freddie, Justin Upton, Heyward, Johnson, or even Simmons and Doumit, that ball is coming off the bat hard.

I've noticed if my timing is off, the PCI is off like it should. There's been plenty of times I identified a hanging curve, hit excited and swung way early and the PCI was over the pitch like it should. But when my timing is normal on those, goodbye.

I think my large sample size has shown me that timing is huge, hence the name, and player ratings are big. Why are Freeman and CJ hitting over. 280 for me? They're easily my best two rated hitters. Why is Heyward a . 250 hitter, but in the top 10 in HRs? His contact ratings aren't too great, but not that bad, but his power is good. I've also got Laird batting over. 350 as a spot starter, but for some reason his contact rating is in the upper 80's.

I just had 7 straight at bats result in 3 HRs, 2 doubles, and 2 singles with Freeman and he's been on a tear and will easily be in the top 5 in average in a series or two at this rate. If I pay attention and swing at mistakes, I get rewarded. Some games the opposing pitcher is near perfect though and I just get beat. That's baseball. Overall though, I'm far from believing the PCI is random. It's not or else my experience would be far different than it is. Get good hitters, swing on time at good pitches and you'll be fine on timing. Me and the guy I'm playing with have been through a season and a half. That's a big enough sample size for me.
I feel the same way! Thanks for sharing.

Hey, would you care to share your difficulty level and sliders? A lot of people in here are struggling and perhaps seeing what you're using could put some of them at ease knowing that if they play smart, they can succeed and have fun too!

Hustlinowl originally said guaranteed slump, and he's not exactly wrong. The randomness will force you into a slump you have very little control over. I just agreed with him. Although I can see how the use of the word "forced" could be misconstrued. No worries man.

I'm just using TNK'S sliders, but adjusted all human hitting to the default 5, left everything else the same. Did raise the CPU batting too as pitching is real easy in this game, but that's a while other topic.

My slumps on timing have come, but I've ended up noticing they're mostly my fault. Sure, there are some tough moments, like popping up the 3-0 fastball, but any prolonged slump has come from a bad game, or even a bad inning. Then I start to press at the plate, start hitting some bad pitches (early strikes in a tough spot to get good wood on), then swing at at some more bad pitches out of the zone.

Last few games I focused on running up the pitch count, finally broke out with back to back 6 run games.

A good game does not have to force outcomes to yield realistic results while remaining fun to play. The creator of the game just needs to balance the game properly... things like what the pitch speed should be so that the hitter is able to have pitch recognition while still not always being able to recognize pitch, making PCI size just right so that the hitter can sometimes square up but not always, etc., etc...

All that balancing, when done well, can make things happen fairly close to real life, and The Show does much of gameplay balancing very well. (Budget type of things are another matter... be it in franchise or Diamond Dynasty... oh well.)

The problem is if you wanted to play online. You would have to use zone. Or pure analog. Timing only is disabled online unless you play with pure analog, which is timing with the right stick. If you planned on playing online at all I say just suck it up and get good with zone. Start on a lower difficulty and work your way up. If you struggle on all star move down to veteran or rookie until its too easy. Also remember that .300 is very good. Failing 70% of the time is considered very proficient.

I recently switched from timing to zone due to me popping up or missing too many fastballs right down the middle. With timing it seemed I never hit the mistake pitches but with zone I feel like I don't get any mistake pitches at all. Pitchers aren't throwing me a lot of balls either. They just seem to hit the corners with every pitch and the only semi-good pitches I get to hit are on the first pitch. With that being said I'm considering moving back to timing because on zone I can't hit the corner pitches but with timing it at least gives me a shot.

With timing you just have to get over the fact you're going to miss some balls down the middle.

On zone I'd hit balls outside of the zone hard and my K numbers were way too low.

I've just moved from timing to zone this past week and my offensive numbers have improved as a result. I was just sick of working the count and getting a fastball down the middle of the plate only for my players PCI to be aimed nowhere near the pitch. Using zone it feels like my patience is actually rewarded, if I get into a 3-0/3-1 count I can look for a pitch over the middle of the plate and punish the pitchers mistakes by aiming myself and timing my swing well. I understand timing is meant to incorporate player attributes more but even the bad mlb level players can punish a fastball down the middle.

One of the reasons I used to use timing was that I wanted the player attributes to come into play when hitting but they still do with zone. The PCI will be smaller for worse hitters and players with better contact stats still hit the ball better.
