Way to Improve Gameplay: Tendencies
Hey guys, I was playing a few games for the last week or so and thought of a way that would help improve the show's gameplay in multiple areas. The addition of player tendencies. This could be done similar to the way it is implemented in the nba 2k series. Basically along with the basic ratings already in the game, you will have tendency ratings that each player will have. For example, for a pitcher, these tendencies could include the pitcher's tendency to try to nibble at the corners, throw pitches low or high in the strikezone, attempt to throw first pitch strikes, the tendency to throw fastball/off speed pitches, etc. For hitters these tendencies could include the tendency for a hitter to swing at the first pitch/early in the count, to swing for power or contact, pulling pitches, to take pitches in certain counts, etc. There can be even be tendencies for fielders such as attempt to make a diving play, etc. I know that these tendencies would probably take a while to develop, but with the great roster makers we have on this board I feel that it could be more than possible and also a great way to individualize players further.Tags: None -
Re: Way to Improve Gameplay: Tendencies
Pro Yakuu Spirits has had this for like five years-- so much the Show could learn from PYS in terms of adding psychological/strategic depth to the game... Infernal the Show has focused on simulation at the visual level, while PYS has always put the simulation of strategic/psychological elements of baseball before photo realism. -
Re: Way to Improve Gameplay: Tendencies
my only question is how do you quantify all these tendencies or "psychological" tendencies to make them a rating? Ive heard hustle and and grit mentioned before. One MLB would let the show start labeling players as no hustle or heart type players. Or bad team mates.
So does The Show just make stuff up and label players as they see fit, and we already have so much bickering and alarmists crying foul on things we can statistically quantify and track..imagine when tendencies and player types get added with things that arent as easy?
I just wish theyd add more stuff like GB/FB rates. vs RH and vs LH for pitchers.
The ones mention in the OP of swing%, first pitch swing rate..that stuff would be a nice additionComment

But I hope the game doesn't go with split vs. RHB/LHB ratings. Platoon effect is real and it's partly handedness but also how the pitch breaks that matter. Pitches that break away from hitters tend to be more effective, so I want the game to implement platoon effect in terms of real cause-effect like that, and not a hand-wavy ratings like split vs. RHB/LHB ratings (although that certainly would be easier for the game to implement.....)Comment

Yeah, I think there are still quite a few low-hanging fruits left in terms of tendency sort of things that are relatively easy to quantify but not implemented in the game yet. I think giving personality to players would also be good down the road, but it doesn't have to be a priority at the moment.

I'd like to see bat speed or something and tendencies like fastball hitter, dynamic hotzones or even dynamic hit charts. I'd like to see the option of starting with a clean slate and build a scouting report based on ABs and what players do from when I start a franchiseLast edited by MLB Bob; 07-31-2014, 10:20 PM.Comment
