Third strike ball in dirt too much?
Man only little league they run to first on third strike like this. At least make it to where user has to hit a button or something to run to first. Shoulnt b a auto animation they never run to first in pros in this gm it cost you sometimes. I hate itTags: None -
Re: Third strike ball in dirt too much?
I see them run to first on a drop third strike quite often in the pros. Sometimes they don't realize the ball is dropped, but they do run.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

There's not enough of the catcher gathering it quickly and tagging the runner before he gets out of the box.Comment

Nothing worse than seeing my defense-first catcher act as slowly as a guy who's not as refined behind the plate. Makes me feel like the ratings aren't important, it's just "you're gonna go slow because we made it that way"."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Agreed, it's like a lot of the fielding animations are way too slow/not reflective of quick actions and fluidity at the position.

On the flip side there are some plays the catchers make that are just superhuman in this game. There's an animation where the batter will hit a chopper up the middle towards the mound, but before the ball even goes anywhere the catcher stands up, fields it, and throws to first and it literally takes all of a second. I see it probably 3 or 4 times a game.. I mean sure, it's an out regardless of what happens, but it just doesn't look or feel right.Comment

It even triggers a commentary script where one of the analysts says something like "I think he just broke the laws of physics on that play.""Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Third strike ball in dirt too much?
Ahhhh I get what you're saying now... Yeah the batters do break too quickly... there needs to be more variation in how quickly the runner starts running. In real life the batter sometimes goes several seconds before noticing that the ball wasn't caught by the catcher.
This used to be a problem with wild pitches too.... the CPU always knew whether or not to run, where the ball was, etc...
This year it seems like they made the baserunning more human like, and I've had wild pitches where the runners didn't run and they could have... And I've also had ones where they did run when the ball was right in front of me. It's been a very pleasant touch.
I'm sure if they just expanded that "human error" logic to dropped 3rd strikes, it would be fine.Comment
