    Things Learnt on Advanced Difficulties

Just want to say, The Show is my favorite game for next-gen consoles right now. And I've been playing it almost exclusively for three months. But even the most rigorous of it's fans have to admit, the game can be infuriating and a little bit enlightening. Here's what I found out by playing the game:

    (3) On hit-and-runs with a right-handed batter, the second basemen shall never be out of place.
    (4) The relay duo of Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura shall not be messed with. 4 home plate assists in 2 games.
    (5) Any ball hit to the outfield shall be hit just hard enough for the runner at second not to score.

    (1) Thou shall not try picking off CPU in retribution. To the stands your ball will surely go.
    (2) When strike three is called a ball, thou shall have been forsaken. Trouble is afoot!
    (3) Low pitch counts shall not last. A battle with the opposing pitcher will be a brewing.
    (4) Physics be damned! It shall be written that Yadier Molina be so great, on broken bat fouls behind home plate, he can go from crouching to driving backwards to make a play.
    (5) If ball one from the CPU is “too” far out of the strike zone, a walk shall find your fortune.
    (6) You shall not get out of this to easily. Your third basemen mustn’t apply a tag to an advancing runner to third to complete a 5-4-3 triple play.
    (7) Freddie Freeman shall not touch first in attempt of making double play. The 3-6-3 is the only way.
    (8) A line drive off David Freese’s mit shall deflect perfectly to Erick Aybar for the 5-6-3 put out.
    (9) Outfielders shall make contact with any wall if they find themselves within 10 feet of it and must make a throw on an active runner.
    (10) Outfielders shall make an extra movement before hurling of red seemed-white ball in the midst of close plays at the plate.

      (2) Your player shall not come up with any hot shots to either corner infield position.
      (3) CPU shall not keep up with unwritten rules of baseball. Bunting for hits is always acceptable.
      (4) CPU shall steal at anytime, any score.
      (5) Thou are not allowed easy strikes to boost pitcher’s effectiveness in warmups.
      (6) Thou shall rue the day they came across Zach Duke and his 84 mph fastball from hell.

The "bunt for hit" one is my favorite. Just played the Brewers and Jean Segura attempted to bunt for a hit in three of his four ABs and was successful twice. Seems like any time I play a team with a player with 90+ speed, that player attempts to bunt for a hit at least twice per game regardless of the situation.

That, and if I have a player on first who's even remotely a threat to steal second, the CPU will attempt roughly 8 pickoff attempts in a row, eventually finding success. Seriously, I'm probably getting picked off an average of three times per game.

I dunno, this thread seems like borderline trolling to me. Just airing out frustrations seems like we're heading toward a "scripted" or "I hate the AI" thread which gets shut down every time. If people really get this frustrated with the game, they should probably just take a break from it.

Re: Things Learnt on Advanced Difficulties

I use a set of Hall of Fame sliders I found on here. I wouldn't call it trolling. I'm just making a reference to IMDB's Thing I Learned While Watching X-movie threads. I love the movie Major League, but who honestly calls for a squeeze play in the bottom of the ninth of a deciding game with a vetern catcher that has bummed knees?

It's nothing preventing me from powering through. Stuff like that happens all the time in real life. Why just yesterday Julio Teheran threw a great five or six innings of work, and fell apart the next inning after Simmons of all people botched a routine grounder at short. Cole Hammels got pulled from a game in the 6th after not giving up a single hit in a one run ball game. Phillies opened up a big inning filled with clutch hits like you would see from the CPU. Stuff like that happens, and I accept that. I expect things like I mentioned above to happen on advance difficulties. The game should be made harder to make more of a challenge so I don't finish a season 142-20. Still doesn't make the controller tossing moments less impactful. I'm just trying to make light of the fraustrating moments and saying, I feel them too.

If Tecmo was released today, would it be trolling to create a thread on Bo Jackson's dominance? In time, if you love a game, you become accepting of it's wrinkles. Like scoring goals on NHL 95. 99.99% of the time it's cheese, but doesn't make the game less fun. Now Madden however...

Touching on the Philly-Atlanta game yesterday. Here's what happened in the 7th. Cole Hammels had a no-hitter through 6:

And I don't believe the game has come back API. Like the above box score, things like that happen. Philadephia got 3 runs on one hit. I frequently get out of late inning jams in close games. To me, it's all about matchups, mound visits, defensive subs, and managing your bullpen. And I'm not above sending Craig Kimbrel out in the 8th to get Puig - Adrian Gonzalez - Han-Ram. Trust Jordan Walden with that, no thanks.

This happened to me last night lol

The when it rains it pours post made me lol too. Seems like once the ball starts rolling it becomes impossible to get a hitter out & if you do happen to get them to hit it to a fielder, they botch it. Then once you change pitchers, the new pitcher gets the remaining outs very quickly. 😑

These 2 are the most accurate thing i've seen said about this game, and it's incredible annoying.

add to this, no throws in from the OF (or cut-off) to make a play at the plate for runners attempting to score. (Usually one of the three cut-off men gathered in the same spot, halfway into the OF, will beak the huddle to casually jog in to the IF)............... /FacePalm

Anyone who thinks this is an attempt at trolling is failing to see the game for what it is . . . a game! The developers cannot code a game perfectly to mimic real life because it's NOT real life. And because of that, things like the OP mentioned DO happen and happen on a regular basis.

Just yesterday, I have a 0-0 game in the 13th inning. Top 13, I had loaded the bases on an error and 2 walks and failed to score. So bottom 13, what happens? Two outs, no one on. Grounder to short, booted by Jeter for error. Next batter single. First and second 2 outs. Next batter single to right hit hard. Runner on third stops, but WAIT! Beltran boots the ball in right and the runner comes around to score and win the game. So a 0-0 game ends with not 1 but 2 errors. Do these things happen in real life? Sure. Do they happen more in this game and at more opportune times for someone to score? Yep.

Yep.
It's a fine line between venting and impressions/constructive criticism (I don't see anything constructive here btw) and there is already an impressions thread.

Usually when someone starts a thread like this (generally it is on the mythical 'comeback code'), it turns into an oh-poor-me-the-game-is-so-unfair fest. Sides are taken, then words are exchanged, devs are insulted, a scrum breaks out, maybe a couple of people get banned, and the thread gets shut down anyway. All I'm saying is it's tough to keep a thread like this from spiraling and descending into trolling the game/SCEA/the devs/people who enjoy the game (which in my insignificant opinion, it already has).
