Would Like Some Buyer's Advice

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I never bought a PS3, so I'm still using my PS2 from way back. I'd like to upgrade either to a later console, but I'm kind of having trouble deciding. Anybody who's familiar with my posts will probably be well-familiar with a big "wish" for a "Classic Franchise" mode, the explanation why quoted here:

"I've always used Franchise mode to create a team of myself and several other friends, but as I'm no longer at an age that one would be beginning a career, it's preventing me from purchasing the game."

Now with that in mind, I wanted to ask what the members of this forum think is the best choice.

A. Buy a PS3
B. Buy a PS4 and hope that said idea does get implemented at some point.
C. Buy neither and continue to hold out until said feature is implemented.
D. Buy both.

Are there any other non-sports games on the consoles that are worth having? Are there any that could justify buying both consoles?

I was in a somewhat similar position a year ago. I was deciding whether to buy a PS3 or a PS4. I went with the PS4 because it was the newer, better hardware and would have top quality support for years to come. PS3 is a great system with amazing games but the system is on the way out. PS4 is very early in its life cycle so there aren't a lot of must have games yet but starting this holiday season, and even more so in 2015, that will change. The good news about the game drought is that PS Now and PS4 remasters give you access or will give you access to many of the great games that were on PS3.

I don't know your tastes but the following sony games are pretty much universally or highly acclaimed; uncharted trilogy, the last of us, heavy rain, littlebigplanet, metal gear solid 4, god of war iii, shadow of the colossus, journey, demon souls.

Don't know if you had an xbox 360 so here are some games that are also on sony and non-sony platforms that are beloved; red dead redemption, fall out 3, mass effect trilogy, grand theft auto 4 and 5, portal 2, bioshock and bioshock infinite, borderlands 2, Deus Ex, tell tales the walking dead.

Long story short. Go with PS4 it's the more future proof option.

I probably should expand a little bit on my gaming tastes. I've never really been much of a "gamer" outside of sports games. That's pretty much all I've played the last few years. I think I'd probably like something like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed, but I'm not sure if I would have to buy the very first issue of the series. I've never owned anything but Playstation consoles. Does this PS Now or PS4 remasters by any chance include older sports games like MLB 09 The Show?

I have a ps3 and a ps4. While the ps4 is awesome and will only get better with time, I'd suggest getting just the ps3. Lotsa a great cheap sports games to be had. Only one baseball currently for the ps4 albeit one helluva game.
Also I still really enjoy the ps3 Show if only for SOTS.

I would go with a ps3, nhl on next gen is a beta version of ps3 version. No ncaa on next gen either. Mlb the show is good but there is not a hugh diffrent to ps3.

If I end up buying a PS3, there's a few question I have about older versions of the show.

1. In the PS2 version of MLB 09 The Show, the amount of money a free agent is asking for is determined by his attributes, so that means that lowering a players attributes will lower his asking price. Does the game still work like this?

2. What is the earliest version of the game where you can wear the Angels' red jersey at home?

3. In versions of the game where you can mix and match jerseys, and one of the options for the Rangers is their 80s/early 90s jersey with blue script Rangers, is the batting helmet that is worn locked to the jersey or the hat?

4. What is the earliest version of the game where you can wear St. Louis red non-throwback HELMET in a road game?

3. The batting helmet has always been tied to the jersey, not the helmet. For example, in MLB 13 and 14, the Cardinals primary road jersey features a red helmet and the alternate road jersey features a blue helmet. It does not matter which hat you choose, (red or blue), it is tied to the jersey.

4. The first game where the red hats and helmets are the primary road lids is in MLB 13. You should be warned, though. With the introduction of the cream Saturday alternate uniform in 13, the Sunday cap is no longer in the game.

This is because the new cream alt uses the red caps instead, and therefore cannot be matched up with the Sunday cap. It's a style guide issue. A workaround we've all been using is wearing either the BP cap or the home old throwback cap. They are both the same thing; blue crown, red bill, red STL.
