    Should I be upset?

I did an online Franchise with my friend. I drafted Trout in the 1st round. We play on All-Star difficulty and play out every game, and I wound up with 92 wins, barely claiming the 2nd wild card. I'm happy with the difficulty settings. However:

    Mike Trout: 159 Games, 660 AB, 93 Runs, 180 Hits, 29 doubles, 10 triples, 35 HR, 100 RBI, 41 BB, 157 K(!!), 45 SB, 14 CS
    .273 AVG, .316 OBP, .506 SLG, .822 OPS

It's a good season, but not "Trout" Worthy. Nelson Cruz (.856 OPS) and Allen Craig (.856 OPS) had better numbers overall.

Do you think that's a let down season for Trout?

If he's surrounded by a stellar cast of hitters, then it's a let down.

His OPS could have been better along with his avg and k's. Maybe more doubles like 35 or so. But all in all that is a good season. But to give my full opinion I would like to know what pick you had in the draft and where else you would have gone if you had not taken trout and the stats of those players.

That's a pretty open ended question, tbh. And there's probably still more information needed to fully assess the issue. I do know that one key statement is that you played out every game, so the human factor is definitely a factor too. If you simmed, or even played a season with player lock on Trout, you'd see more "Trout-like" numbers (especially with the K's, which directly effected his OPS).

Currently with 14 games left in real like Trout has 169 K's so maybe you should be pretty happy with only 157 also in real life only 14 Sb's so maybe your's dont look so bad.

It's the walks (and thus OBP) that looks too low.

Everything else looks like Trout being Trout (including the K's).

                Re: Should I be upset?

kblover you are right. If 20 of those strikeouts were even singles, his average would be .312 and all the other numbers would be right in line. He went into epic slumps, he was 0/52 at one point.

I drafted 2nd overall. Carlos Beltran went first. Dodgers made it to the WS, so I can't fault them.

Other guys in my lineup were:
                Allen Craig , .283/ 43 doubles/ 33 HR/ 97 RBI/ 51 BB -- .850 OPS
                Nelson Cruz, .272/ 19 doubles/ 41 HR/ 96 RBI/ 41 BB -- .856 OPS
                Jose Abreu, .281/ 24 doubles/ 26 HR/ 72 RBI/ 44 BB -- .846 OPS (133 Gm)
                Albert Pujols, .280/ 22 doubles/ 26 HR/ 61 RBI/ 44 BB -- ..845 OPS (117 Gm)
                Starlin Castro .250/ 38 doubles/ 9 HR/ 54 RBI/ 49 BB -- .711 OPS

So there was enough offense to go around when you throw in Trout. All my guys hit in the .270-.280 range so it must be based on my skill level. I'll need to work on that for next year.

Went through the offseason, lost Cruz to the Astros. I signed Melky Cabrera and Andre Ethier so maybe combined they can soften the blow.

OK so after seeing what Trout's Ks are this season those don't seem to out of the blue. But I still want to know who else you would have thought of taking and their stats. So pretty much what I am asking is who would you have taken should Trout have been the #1 pick. Instead of Beltran, which is an idiotic decision even though they made it to the World Series. Because you had guys like Trout, Kershaw, Tulo, Yadi, Goldy, Stanton, Puig, etc. available who would have been better choices there for now and the long run.

                    Re: Should I be upset?

No. A lot of great hitters have down seasons. It just happened to be Trout in your game, but Hanley had a down year, Prince had a down year, Pujols had a down year... whats his face on the Phillies , Jose Bautista.

Just cuz it hasnt happened to Trout in real life doesnt mean it's improbable.

You just got the short end of some ordinary variance.

Personally I would be upset if it played out exactly like I expect it to based on real life results.

                        Yep....I agree.

It would take decisions....especially tough decisions out of the equation.

That's baseball. Outside of that, he hit .296 and probably some more extra base hits, etc.

Only thing I'd work on is trying to take more walks with him. That's a lot of K's but Trout has a lot of K's irl, so that's not really it. It's really that one horrid slump and maybe some "bad luck" on BABIP. He had a .309 BABIP, which is about ML average, but that's much below Trout's standard, so for him, .309 is some bad luck.

I also see he played (basically) every game. Perhaps some rest could have kept him fresher and avoiding any drop off due to fatigue.

Yeah. Well sadly online franchise doesn't use fatigue. Every position player is 100% rested, every game. I wish this were not the case.
