    Question about Zone hitting

What is the point of zone hitting when the computer moves your cursor for you sometimes, I will have a hit lined up perfectly but than the computer moves my reticle up or down sometimes so I will either pop it up or hit a ground ball. I don't use guess pitch or any influence with the right stick.

I expect that a ball that I have squarely hit should be squarely hit and not changed by the computer. Its rather annoying that its like this, I feel cheated if it actually let me truly aim I would be ok with that because if I miss a ball its my fault but when the computer makes me it makes me think what the hell is the point.

Is there anyway to fix this? or is this just how the game is programmed so you can't be a baseball god.

Zone works fine for me. Wherever I move the PCI is where it ends up.

I think you may be referring to timing. When hitting is set to timing the PCI is controlled by the computer. Which is usually random.

No, I am using zone. I am playing right now, for example ill move my aim to the left of the zone and the computer will move my aim to the lower end of the zone rather be in the middle even though I didn't move it down just to the left.

The PCI feedback moves slightly up or down, in relation to your timing (early or late, respectively), in relation to the pitch. If the PCI is above where you intended it to be, or above the center (if you didn't move it), that means you were significantly early on the pitch.

Likewise, if the PCI is below the desired location, your timing was late.

(Wait... I might have that backwards.)

The concept behind this is that pitches travel on a downward trajectory. The earlier you swing, the higher the pitch will be in relation to its target. The later you swing, the lower the pitch will be.

So if a pitch is right dead center in the zone, and you swing on time, and do not touch your analog stick, your PCI will be dead center in the zone, right on top of the pitch.

It makes a great deal of sense if you think about it, but it certainly could have used an in-game explanation of some sort, or a better method of conveyance.

Thank you for the explanation, it was driving me nuts since there was no explanation to it.

I usually guess the location of the pitch depending on the count and situation. Some pitchers want to make you ground out into a double play when there's a man on first.. So I guess a low location and usually hammer the ball if I guess right.

Also, playing as a catcher really improves your reaction time to the ball since you basically have to move the glove to catch every pitch. I've guessed wrong and still gotten homeruns because I adjusted quickly enough that there's no penalty.

Then again you might not even use guessing, since it might be considered cheesy.. Even though irl, when you're batting, you're basically guessing. You just don't get an indication like in the game

I am new to MLB The Show and played my first full season using "pure analog hitting". I hit .228 as a team and was horrendous at the plate. I started to notice that the PCI was going all over the place as the CPU adjusts it manually.

I have recently switched to Pure Analog Zone hitting and just leave my PCI in the middle of the plate. Just by making this minor adjustment and trying to remain patient and wait for pitches in the middle of the plate, I have been hitting .246 as a team through my first 30 games of season 2.

If you use timing/analog hitting I recommend you use zone as well, even if you do not want to control the PCI on a pitch by pitch basis. Just turning it on and leaving it in the middle of the plate does wonders. It is way to erratic when you do not turn zone hitting on and just let the CPU control the PCI.
