    House Rules

I'd love to hear what others are using or thinking of adding.

My house rule I'm considering is not scouting prospects. I haven't gotten to my draft yet, but am concerned with how accurate the "accuracy" indicator is. A sure thing prospect is rarex and I want to make the draft more of a crap shoot.

Anyone with more info on how accurate scouting truly is, please share.

    Re: House Rules

When I play as an NL team I only pitch fastballs to other pitchers

If I get hit by a pitch right after hitting a homer, then when I get on the mound
the opposing team gets plunked right back

if I have a 5 run lead or larger in the 8th inning I empty my bench of position players

I don't sign high priced free agents. And if I can't get an extension hammered out with a player the offseason before team control status ends I either trade him or let him walk when he becomes free agent eligible. I also created a spreadsheet with the real to life contracts of all the Braves with multi-year contracts and deduct that from my budget of available funds.

I don't do training for any players over 25 years old.

All trades are fair and realistic (no cpu-cpu trades unless I make them).

Sign fair contracts using real market rates.

Do you guys accept trades from the AI? They offered me Jonathon Papelbon and Carlos Ruiz for Hernan Perez, Joel Hanrahan and a 1st Baseman prospect. Hernan Perez is a darn good middle infield prospect, and Hanrahan is decent. The trade seems fair because the Phillies are offering age for youth. I really need a right handed catcher because Avilla cant hit lefties and Bryan Holiday can;t hit period. Also Nathan is being Joe Nathan so I really need a closer. When the deal came to me it seemed to good to be true as I really need to win now with the team Aging and Sherzer and Victor most likely gone at the end of the year?

Would you make this trade or do you have rules that would prevent you from making it?

If I get an offer that actually makes some sense and isn't a horrible rip off on either side, sure.

Usually, though, I use it to gauge what they might be interested in and then use the trade spreadsheet to try to put a fair deal together. If not, then no deal - we're not a match right now.

As for other house rules - I don't quite go as far as WaitTillNextYear with training, but I'll put it on auto training for guys with C or lower POT or guys 27 or older (which is basically like no training as far as I'm concerned lol).

I'll only scout a certain amount of prospects 100%. The rest only go halfway or less. I will discover talent (if you don't, NDAlum found you'll get their POT displayed accurately on draft day - and I won't draft those guys since I probably won't discover everyone).

Trades - I'll use the trade spreadsheet for the first few years. After that, I'll try to compare how the guys are doing to real life guys so I can get an idea on their value (like for fictionals or guys who came up through development, etc).

I don't have definitive data or anything, but I think at 100% it's pretty much spot on. I think around half to 2/3, it's reasonably off. Below 1/2 and who knows. JMO.
