You cant eat a chunk of a contract but you can take on some really bad contracts the CPU has. They tend to have a lot of overpriced, over the hill former stars making millions in the minors. You could always take on one or more of them and at least give the team back some payroll flexibility in that way.

I would love for the trade/FA logic to include this, would add a lot of reality to the game.

It would, but either MLB or the MLBPA (its never been made clear who or why) has developed big issues with real contracts being in the game, and now won't allow it. I would think that they would also be opposed to the realism of teams eating contracts and trading players for contract reasons.

Its a big personal pet peeve of mine in relation to the game.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

Yeah, I'm a bit optimistic that may change, if you check the fact sheet for OOTP 15 or 16, whichever one is about to come out, it has full MLBPA support with full minors, etc.

Maybe just maybe, The Show will get this as well.

Did not know that. That makes me optimistic. You can retain a certain amount of a contract in NHL this year. It was a nice addition even though they stripped so many other things out of the game this year.

            NHL: Rangers
            MLB: Yankees
            NFL: Giants
            NCAAF: Illinois Fighting Illini, Lafayette
            NCCAB: Illinois Fighting Illini, Lafayette

The only way the Show gets real minor league rosters/players in the game is the following:

                1. Minor league players form a player union.

                2. SCEA pays each minor league player individually for their rights/likeness.

Neither is likely to happen anytime soon.

ya OOTP was ahead of the curve. Prob 2-3 years away from that. I'd rather get a full Single A season added first.

If I am not mistaken they don't need to pay for the use of minor leaguers for text based games like OOTP. Text based games have a different set of rules to follow. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Well with the Show. The good about not having the "real number's" in the contract you can move those non productivity players on your team. Thanks to not having the real number figure in the contract it allow me to move Uggla & BJ Upton from my Braves franchise. I only controlled 1 team, so that is a plus for me.

I get that, and I also play one team franchise, but I also want more realism in it. I use the game as a GM simulator, and I would say that I take more enjoyment from the off field aspects of sports games than the on field ones (like 60/40). I have a lot of fun looking at real contracts (or realistic ones at least) on all the teams, and managing my team to the top. Having situations where a guy is one of the highest paid players in the league and makes peanuts in the game, or vice versa, takes a ton of the fun out of that.

At least as a Cubs fan, with my team now filled with cost controlled youngsters, the contracts on my club should all be fairly realistic.

I agree, I don't like being able to cheat the system because the system is not realistic enough to know it's being cheated. It almost needs to have real contracts, etc. to properly balance it out. GM goals, etc. would be nice as well.
