Hitting mlb the show 13 vs 14
I was just wondering what your guys opinions are on the difference between each games hitting. I personally really liked 13, due to 13 having a higher level of strategy involved. I hit use zone on stock legend. I feel like in 13 the square button actually has a big impact on hitting. In 14 it seems to induce more pop ups, even when squaring the ball up. In 13 I'd start with x or square with a power hitter hoping for a pitch right down the middle. If I had a 1-0 2-1 I'd use the power swing as well. In the 13 the square button would create harder hit balls, not just home runs which I really liked. As far as the circle button I think the user has to use this button more as well with two strikes. This may be because it's a little harder to make contact in 13 than 14. I just feel like they have deemphasised the power button. In 14 I hit a lot more home runs using x than I did in 13. I'm fine with hitting home runs with the x button I just like the strategy of using different buttons for different situations. My background is college/drafted baseball player whose played close to 700 games of mlb 13 and around 150 of 14 PS3 and ps4. Thanks guys for the input in advance, great community for info on this site.Last edited by jsou4646; 03-02-2015, 10:32 PM.Tags: None -

I play on a MUCH lower difficulty setting, but I think that you make a lot of good points. Square doesn't seem to have as much of an effect as in earlier games, while circle seems to have much more of one. I find myself using circle much more often with two strikes than ever before. In fact, except with my best hitters, its almost default for me now with two strikes unless my guess of a high fastball is right.
For me, the elimination of knowing that the pitch type guess is right if the location guess is wrong has been the killer. I'm still working my way back from that.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none. -

Never noticed much of a difference between 13 or 14. I do use Zone + Analog Hitting though, and don't use the buttons.
12-13 was a gigantic difference with the opened Timing Window, though. It also introduced a weird floaty effect, but I don't even notice it any more because of the 100's of hours I put in to the game each year.Comment

2012 was my favorite as far as hitting goes. Actually 12 has been my favorite game of the franchise to this point.Comment

I totally agree with op. I loved the power swing but now its not really worth the risk of shrinking your PCI and you get alot of weak layouts when you square it up.
I also prefer legend and I pretty much stick with the X button this year.Comment

That's pretty much my plan when playing 14. 14 has so many little things that make It a better game as far as presentation, but I really think 13s hitting is the best it's been in any of the games during the shows existence.Comment

I thought MLB 12 was the best out of all the games. MLB 13 really frustrated me because they changed the timing window, so you had to really sit back and wait before pressing the button to swing and even then, you'd likely be early and miss the pitch. I feel 14 is improved but the random PCI placement with timing hitting can be baffling at times.Currently Playing:

I thought 12 had the most challenging hitting in the series, but 14 had the best balance and the best ball physics.
I can not wait for 3/31 when we will get the very best version of this title yet.Now Playing on PS5:
