For everyone saying Sandoval should be a top 10 3rd baseman, I have to disagree. Take a look at his stats, they have been trending downward (with the exception of 2010) since he came into the league. His OPS is 13th and AVG is 9th. There is also a clear trend toward rating a person's potential. Ruiz, Gomes, McCann and Wieters over Russell Martin? I don't think so. Billy Hamilton is the 8th best Center Fielder? Maybe when he gets on base, but he doesn't even do that well. Should stolen bases and speed count so high for a mediocre hitter? -

I think Catcher is a heavily defense-rated position, too. McCann didn't have a great batting average but he had more power numbers than pretty much anyone, and was above average defensively.Comment

Compare that to Kyle Seager (77 OVR last year), who got a huge boost because he improved in categories that are valued at 3B.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: MLB 15 The Show Player Ratings - Top Rated Players at Each Position
I don't pay that much attention to the OVR in game, but they do matter from what I have read regarding the AI's decision in game so I guess they should matter in some way. I've actually tried to pay more attention to them the last few years since the AI apparently uses OVR for things like lineup creation etc.
The only player I really have an issue with is Anthony Rizzo. I know that the past 3 years are used and his 2013 was mediocre for a 1st baseman, but he led all 1st baseman in fWAR last year and feels like one of those players that deserves a bump due to his recent "breakout" performance. It seems weird to see him ranked below someone like Chris Davis, who technically has a higher fWAR over the past 3 years due to his monster 2013, but last year was only worth 0.5 fWAR compared to Rizzo's 5.6 fWAR. Sometimes I really agree with using the 3 year system, but others I feel it undermines a player's recent or past performance.Comment

Johnny Peralta isn't even in the Top 10 rated SS's in the game? Tied for second among all SS in HR, 2nd in RBI, led all SS in WAR, 3rd in DWAR. SMH...Comment

I'm actually Ok with Rizzo at 84. We have to remember that it will increase in a franchise. Him being A potential it could possibly grow to 90+. But still Castros rating irritates me. He will grow too but a 24 yr old 3x all star SS and he's an 80!?!Comment

Re: MLB 15 The Show Player Ratings - Top Rated Players at Each Position
Not sure but his defense being so bad is probably why he isn't rated as a higher ss. Not sure how much D effects the ratings, but that could be it.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

It depends on the position. SS OVR most likely takes defensive ratings into account more than it does offensive.Comment

Cueto has a 2.54 ERA the last 3 years. His WAR is less than Klubers though.
David Price has 5 more WAR. (20 more starts though) a lower ERA. Exact same FIP, Lower BB/9. But lower K k/9.
Darvish has 3 more WAR (10 more starts). Higher K/9, does have a higher BB/9. Basically the same ERA. Higher FIP though.
Bumgarner has a lower ERA. But his BB/9 is higher. K/9 is lower and his FIP is higher.
Now id say he should be ahead of Fernandez though. Point is Kluber has had 1 good year. Do it again and he will easily be top 10 next year.Comment

Re: MLB 15 The Show Player Ratings - Top Rated Players at Each Position
Pretty much everyone's mad if their favorite teams player didnt get a 90 plus rating lol. A credential like gold glove or "2 times all star" means nothing. Scott Rolen made the ASG with like a 650 OPS and being injured. Come on people.....
Plus for the one millionth time....overalls mean nothing because certain attributes are weighted heavier for each position.
Castro will probably have 70-80 contact, 40-50 power, and 60-70 defense like he does every year. In Mlb 13 he was probably a 90+ but now he is an 80 does not change how he performs on the field.Comment

Again I dont buy into overalls but I can guarantee they have Peralta's defense vastly underrated again. Players like Castro and Jose Reyes shouldn't have better defensive attributes than Peralta's.Comment
