    player salaries

So I wanted to start a franchise and rebuild my favorite team (the phillies) but when I loaded the game up Ryan Howard is on a 2 year 4 million dollar contract. Is there anyway to get real contracts? Don't get me wrong, it's nice not to be stuck with that disaster of a contract but I'd rather have the challenge of actually rebuilding

Not in 2014. Contract editing is however a new feature in MLB 15.

You can just write down his actual ratings, then increase his ratings quite a bit before starting a franchise. This will increase the amount of his salary. Then you can just edit his ratings back to normal.

I think there was a thread a while ago that had a lot of good info on this.

Yeah, never before, but the most exciting new feature in 2015 is the ability to edit contracts. Huge, game changing (literally) feature that will massively improve franchise for GM sim players like me.

Is he now going to sign a contract based on that $14M figure and sign something like 5 years for $80M, or is he going to revert back to the old scale and sign a like 5 year, $25M deal based on him being paid $5M per year in The Show.

Just curious. Not sure how that logic works in the game.
          Good question(s).

So, we can edit contracts at any point during franchise mode? Sort of defeats the purpose of contracts in general doesn't it? Couldn't I just offer anyone a ridiculous contract and then once they sign, just lower it to something reasonable--or, peanuts?

Although, I do like the efforts so as to keep things more realistic for sure!

No, can only edit outside of modes.

I hope they add (it's possible it's already there and I'm just an idiot...) a better way to change created player salaries.

When i go to make myself in Create a Player, i want to make myself a starting pitcher, with a starting pitcher sized contract.

Unfortunately, after about 30 seconds of holding right and only ending up at 1.5 million per season...i usually say "Meh, hometown discount. I was born in Milwaukee..." and just move on.

In the free agency aspect of the game in the offseason, players will sometimes sign HUGE contracts. I just played through the 15/16 offseason using the newest OSFM rosters, and Jason Heyward signed a deal for 120 million dollars over five years. Multiple teams resigned guys to 20 mil+ contracts. I think that the contracts for guys with 6+ years in the league are actually pretty realistic, if not even too big.

That doesn't mean that you can't sign a guy to a deal sometimes. I picked up Aramis Ramirez to be my backup 3B and RH PH for 1.5 mil. But the best guys in their prime usually sign contracts that are as big as you would expect IRL.

                    Re: player salaries

Right.....but the possible problem is the initial handing out of more than current big $$ contracts....the %(say 10%) increase in budget for all those contracts...and then a much lower number of FA's getting the edited big $$ contracts causing a huge surplus.
Once those team budgets get inflated...they grow at a steady pace usually.

If the devs have changed it to have the CPU hand out contracts according to budget #'s.....no problem...but if it's just based off ratings and a set offering...that could be problematic.

                      Re: player salaries

If signing logic has not been touched salaries will not be proportionate and editing ALL salaries may impact the game.

Look at MLB14. In 14 players sign larger deals in Arbitration than in free agency. Take a player like Harper. He would get $20 million in arbitration and then sign a free agent contract for $15 a year. When in reality his Free agent contract should be much larger.

The contracts were based more on the team that signed him than worth. Use 30 team control and take a player like Heyward. He would ask for $40 from the Yankees and $15 million from the Pirates. Both offers would be the same in the eyes of the player. I believe that was one way they tightened the budgets.

I can see how that might be a problem if you go a lot of years into the future. 3-4 years though, I wouldn't think that it would create much of an issue. Thats as far as I ever go.
