When I do franchise, I have exactly one rule, and I wish it could be done in RTTS as well.

    No designated hitter.

I don't really have any house rules for this game myself.

I mean, I would try not to fleece the CPU on trades but there are so many trades IRL that make no sense at all for one team that I don't worry myself about it anymore. Ridiculous trades happen all of the time so I'm okay with making one every now and then with the CPU.

Okay, I'll try to remember some my OCD house rules for franchise mode:

        1. I always do fantasy draft, do I don't allow myself to scroll way down in search of the A 18-20 year old players that will be 90+, and instant gold for trade bait. I just let them get auto-picked in rounds 15-25. I will, however, let myself take 3-4 of them I also will load up a new franchise about 50 times because I want to get a certain guy and don't want to reach for him! No house rules there!

        2. I always seem to lean forward in the couch when I'm batting. So I have to force myself to relax and lean back when pitching.

        3. 1 attempt 1 drag bunt for every drag bunt the CPU attempts.

        4. Since I just can't live with myself unless I play every damn game, I auto sim once I am winning or losing by 5 runs. I'm also let myself sim the season if I'm 10 games back after the All Star break.

        5. Only attempt 1 big trade per year, and hopefully it's a deal I am offered. Once they accept, you have to accept. No going back and refining it to get the most ROI.

        6. Avoid the big free agents.

I usually only end up playing 2-3 seasons, since I try to play every game of the season. So, I'm trying to figure out a way to sim games that will satisfy me. Maybe only pitch with the 2, 3 and 4 pitchers. Sim the games with my ace and 5 guy. Or maybe sim the 3rd game of the series unless it's a rubber match. I don't know; can't figure it out. I've even thought of that quick counts option, but that makes me feel kinda dirty too I do feel comfortable simming games in which I have all my every day guys playing. No injuries and nobody resting. I've seen alot of ways people play franchise, but none of them feel right to me. I don't even feel 100% right simming the game after a 5 run lead, because too many strange things happen. Like they'll burn through my setup guys instead of letting my long man throw 2+ innings. This is not the game for control freaks!

Great thread! This is like therapy for me!

The way that I'll sometimes get through a season on franchise mode is by playing the first 5 games of the season, or one with each starter. Then after that, I will sim basically five consecutive games. For example, after the first 5 games, I will play the next game which would be with my ace. Then, instead of playing the very next game with my #2, I would sim the next 5 games after until the NEXT start for my number 2 guy, if that makes sense. Then sim the next 5 until the NEXT start for my number 3, and so on. This way you still get to pitch with every pitcher in your rotation whole getting through a lot quicker. If you wanted to, after doing this and getting through your rotation this way, you could play 5 straight in a row again if you feel you're missing too many games. This method definitely isn't for everybody though lol.

I usually take until I get a strike.

In my franchise (and RTTS, if applicable), I make young, untested pitchers attempt to follow the catcher's calls, even if I disagree with the pitch choice/location. It helps me remember the importance of experience and to mistrust the wide-eyed ignorance of youth.

Although it can make for some pretty awkward, stress-filled (but very gripping) innings. Thrown four straight fastballs, the last of which barely drifted a few inches right of the foul pole to become a lucky strike instead of a game-ruining bomb? Sounds like the perfect time for another fastball!

This is a very interesting technique, I am going to try this out once the novelty ova playing every game starts to wear off
