I understand some folks will be upset because they are still relying on MLB 14 online functionality. But there is a trade-off. The way I understand it, MLB 14 servers are kind of a joke. I'm guessing the majority of users would rather see Sony San Diego put their time, resources, and especially money into supporting the MLB 15 servers to make them as improved as possible.

Granted, in the grand scheme, the cost of keeping a couple MLB 14 servers online for a few more months may not be that much.

I am in an Online Franchise. We will still be in the middle of our season by then.

Updated the OP. June 18th is official.

I've always found it funny that EA gets the most flack over server shutdowns, yet 2K, and Sony have both been shutting their sports game servers much quicker than EA ever has.

Last week servers were awful, thinking some testing was being done behind the scenes and this week game has played best it has all year!!! Coincidence with MLB15 approaching?? Sure hope they have figured out some of the online issues and putting 14 to bed earlier will stabilize 15 servers. Still convinced that MLB14 PS4 servers were also being bogged down with MLB14 PS3 servers.

If you ask me that's way to quick. 2k is another one that shut there servers down at an alarmingly quick rate. Give credit to EA, their servers are up for a heck of a long time before they shut em down.

Could you imagine the outrage by people if they shut down the COD servers after one year? Lol, But on here, for this game, some people defend this, ughhh, what if they decided they wanted to shut down the severs the day after the world series because they want to focus on next years game, Would anyone think thats ok? Just curious.

                    OMG!

I haven't heard of this since last year......
                    and the year before that..
                    and the year before
                    and.....

(Hint: If the deciding factor of your purchase is that you really want to play the same version for years ONLINE....you might want to rethink it!)

                    Question;
Is anyone going to be "surprised" when this happens again next year?
                    Curious.

That is not a good analysis, the user base is huge for COD so the expense to keep it operational warrants that. As far the Show is concerned I am sure it is evaluated if the cost is worth keep the server active longer or shorter based on the active user base. I would not be surprised if the active users were lower because of the poor online performance in 14 especially. It's more a cost business decision rather then just a general screwing over that people like to think.

I actually think it's pretty shady too. I mean, you are forcing people to basically let go of 14 and we all know in sports games, not everyone buys each iteration. You might call that "smart" and that's your opinion of course but it's also abandoning the 14 fanbase awfully quick.

If cost is an issue, why can't they just scale down the services? Not everyone is going to migrate to 2015 by June. They should really stay online for two years like some other sports games.

You can still play the game. Just not online. And online was crap for 14.

On one hand, as someone in the IT field, I gotta believe the cost is pretty low. But I don't know what infrastructure/hardware is needed just to run and what kind of manpower they need to have staffed to keep it running.

On the other hand, I have to wonder how many users will be online with MLB 14 come June? A few thousand? A few hundred? Maybe the cost is not worth it from the business side of things, even if on the technical side the Sony San Diego team wants to keep some online up and running for the previous year's game. It may be outside of their control, the decision may come from higher up.

                              all speculation here...

Remember that online isn't just PvP, its the roster vault, cloud/cross saves, The Show Live, etc.

Once again I'll stress that this might be a UK/EUR only thing, it was posted on the UK blog after all...
