RTTS Breaking the HR Single Season Record: The Show 07 vs The Show 14

I thought some of you might be interested in seeing this. I've been playing MLB The Show for quite a long time with RTTS being my favorite mode. This weekend I broke the HR record in my current RTTS career, but here you can watch my RTTS player all the way back in MLB The Show 2007 break Barry Bonds' HR record and then view it happening in MLB The Show 14. Same team, same park, two console generations apart. I wish I had a PS3 version of the record being broken. It's fun to look back at how far the game has come.

      Cool stuff--thanks for posting.

Incredible how far the game has come. Noticed in 07, pre-pitch, you could see in the dugout. Completely empty, lol.

Then when the team was congratulating him, there were like 5 dudes in there.

Funny, given that our complaints now are that jersey numbers are a little too low on the back of certain teams' jerseys.

        Looks the same to me.
        Nothing but a roster update.

Hey Kev.....you know you didn't have to play on just rookie in '07, right?

Lol, I remember getting that comment a lot back in 07. I think it was All-star, but you were really able to dominate in that first iteration of RTTS (was it called RTTS back then?) although it took longer to get out of the minors and start powering up, I think that video is from my player's 7th year in the league. I used guess pitch back in those days which really helped crush the ball. My current RTTS player is getting pretty super-human, but I don't think I could ever bat .400+ anymore. Definitely going to see him through his retirement (probably in MLB 16). But yeah, the game has come a long way, but I don't say that meaning that the old games were junk. They were great too. I remember that 07 game, I played it so much thinking RTTS was the coolest thing ever.

            Haha...yeah.
            Very funny to see again.
The generic faces...oh how roster creation was so much easier then!

Dang looking back at that it really makes you appreciate what The Show is now! Hopefully this year I'll play enough RTTS to make it to the Big Leagues and try to break that record!

I wonder if they have special commentator dialogue for throwing an eighth career no-hitter, breaking Nolan Ryan's record of seven.

I've never thrown one (I love to be the pitcher in RTTS), but being from Texas, of course Nolan Ryan is idolized here, so I had to ask.

By the way, you can tell Vasgersian and the others WANTED to say Barry Bonds' name, but they weren't allowed to (because he left the players' union in the last seven or so years of his career, thus can't appear in the games).

Holy crap I remember that 07 video from way back. It was one of the first times I looked up MLB the show footage on Youtube. Didn't realize you were a member here on the forums. Small world isn't it?

its ironic because matty V is a spaz in real life and would go nuts if that happened, all 3 of them (in the 14) video just sucked all the good energy out of that moment. They really do need to improve vastly.

I've actually felt that announcing could improve incredibly easily if it drew from the events instead of the canned response feeling. I know its an old game but given the tech it had at the time, I always go back and point to All-Star Baseball 2005.

If a guy was traded, when he comes up to bat the next few games they discuss the trade and his role on the new team. Same if a guy is being "shopped" around, they talk about his high salary or the fact that the team is hoping to get some power for him or something. Also with regards to records, they track a lot of records. Basically every major stat is tracked showing the top I believe 50 in each category as well as team records. When a guy is approaching one or on pace for one, they start talking about that. If a guy was 2015 MVP in 2016 they refer to him as the reigning MVP.

Given the limited amount of space for commentary etc, they were able to inject a little excitement into the more exciting moments. I'd love MLB The Show team to get a copy of that and take some notes at least on the Record Books and Interactive Commentary. (They had expansion teams too but I could take or leave that).

I always thought it'd be cool if, instead of bringing them in to read lines, they have them watch live games between real baseball teams, and record what the announcers say. Like improv sessions. That way they'd come up with their own reactions like announcers must do, and it'd be really natural. I mean, they're top MLB commentators. It's why they were hired to be broadcast guys, and it would play to their strengths.

If you were going to do that, you might as well just have them broadcast a real game while being recorded and cut it up from that.

But we are not there yet with technology. You still have scripts and read from them in a recording studio in most cases because you want different inflections and tones and takes. Then you categorize each of them for later. I think some games do record the broadcasters going ad-lib while watching the video game play out in front of them. But people still complain that it sounds repetitive and unenthusiastic.
